Research Work:: Synopsis of The Project Why This Topic? Where We Started?

Primary and secondary research identified two key challenges for managing excess food: supply chain issues and identifying those in need. Most old age homes and orphanages in Kerala are well-funded, while many people on the streets are addicted to drugs or otherwise able to earn food. To address these problems, a community-based mobile application model was proposed to connect donors, those in need, and social groups. The model would start lean and mature over time to be sustainable. Further improvement may involve creating a market for excess food so that people maintaining their pride can purchase it at a reduced price.

Synopsis of the Project

Why this topic?

Where we started?
Research Work:
We have conducted research work using primary as well as secondary data to understand on the
key challenges to start this type of an initiative.

Primary analysis Add the document in the appendix. Provide a summary in the report.
Secondary Analysis - Different Visits and the feedback collected from stakeholders. Use
the PPT created after discussing with different stakeholders.

Key learnings from the Primary and Secondary Data:

There are two main key challenges come out after the research work. One is about the supply
chain aspects of excess food management and the other one is to identify the needy. In a state
like Kerala most of the old age homes and orphanages are well funded and they have enough
resources to serve the tenants. If we look at the people in street many of them are addicted to
drugs and having a good health to earn their bread.
This made us think to create a model which will help to address these problems to an extent.
Identified Problems for implementation
Proposed Model
How the whole model works?
Community Based
Donor Needy Social Group
Connecting using a mobile Application
Lean Model
Mature Model
Sustainability Perspective
Further areas of Improvement:
Kerala being a state where people has sense of proud and most of them are not willing to take the free
food even though there is a difficulty to earn bread for the day. These people are willing to take the
food if the food is given with a low price. This is leading to a thought on is it possible to create a
market for excess food so that this can be given to those people who would to like bought it for a
reduced price.
