Coolant Temperature - Engine Protection
CODES

REASON

EFFECT

Fault Code: 151

PID(P), SID(S): P110
SPN: 110
FMI: 0
Lamp: Engine Protection or
Yellow*
SRT: 00-014

Voltage at the coolant temperature

signal pin 17 of the sensor harness
connector indicates the coolant
temperature is above 104C
[219F].

Progressive power and speed derate with

increasing time after alert. If Engine Protection
Shutdown is enabled, the engine will shut down
30 seconds after the engine protection lamp or
the Red lamp* starts flashing.

Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit

Circuit Description:
The coolant temperature sensor is used by the electronic control module (ECM) to monitor the temperature of the engine
coolant. The coolant temperature is used by the ECM for the engine protection system, and the timing and fueling control.
Component Location:
M11 - The coolant temperature sensor is located in the front of the thermostat housing support on most M11 applications.
On bus applications, the sensor will usually be located at the rear on the thermostat housing support.
N14 - The coolant temperature sensor is located on the top of the thermostat housing.
Shop Talk:
Make sure the airflow through the radiator is not obstructed.
* Applies to 98N14 and 98M11 calibrations only.
