Detailed testimonial
To whom it may concern,
Rhian joined my company, The Canting Crew, for a two weeks
worth of intern work on the 17th of May 2014 to the 31st of May
2014.
Rhian was asked to come on board as Directors runner initially,
however she was asked to operate as stage manager and supply all
lighting and sound cues to the box, she agreed to this greater
challenge, and took it in her stride.
It was a long and challenging 2 weeks and Rhian was more than
equal to the task, bringing a professional and positive attitude to all
that was asked of her.
We had a full get in, tech run, filmed dress run, and then
performance within the two weeks and Rhian was a reliable and
confident member of the team, and within a few hours of working
with her it felt like she has been part of the team for years.
The days began very early, and it was great to see Rhian arrive
before the call time. She immediately got involved with what had to
be done and on the day of the performance Rhian was happily
involved from the get in, and lying out of the set, a very willing
participant.
After a briefing I handed over the book for the show to Rhian, and
we began working with the tech team on plotting the lighting and
sound cues, where she took control of the book, plotting out the
show herself.
On the day of the show, Rhian was on book, and controlling the
show. All tech runs can have issues, however Rhian was a joy to
work with, being more professional that some of the venue staff. Her
poise and professional manner gave me full confidence that the
show was in good hands. She worked with the actors exceptionally
well, and took control of the timing issues and technical glitches,
ensuring they were sorted out by the dress run.
Following a short break we had our full filmed dress rehearsal, and
the show went without a hitch. Rhian was an exceptional team
member. The best stage managers are the ones you never realise
are there. Despite this being the first time she had taken this role, it
is exactly what she became, the best.
Controlling a play can be daunting and despite being nervous Rhian
was great. Her sense of ownership of the role was clear, she cared
about doing her best. This gave confidence to the cast, and to me as
Director. She also had also gained the respect of the in-house
technical team, a hardened crew, and this paid dividends.
A true Stage Manager, Rhian went out in the break and filled the
strangest shopping list, ensuring we had all we required for the
evening run.
Following a second break we faced the show its self.
By this point in the day Rhian was a seasoned hand. Giving cast
calls on the in house system, working well with the front of house
team on getting the show up, despite there being a delay by box
office.
Following the show Rhians enthusiasm had not diminished, and she
mucked in on the get out and assisted on clearing the space.
