Collaboration
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take
responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues,
other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and
to advance the profession.
Reflection:
This standard addresses multiple ways that the teacher engages with the
school community to ensure learner growth. This means, the teacher works
to ensure a positive learning atmosphere and appropriate standards,
expectations, and instruction for each student. To do this, the teacher
collaborates and participates as a leader communicating with administrators,
families, colleagues, learners, and the community.
I have participated in numerous professional development sessions in which I
have actively engaged and participated in. I have communicated with many
colleagues within and outside my curriculum to ensure learner growth. In
doing so, I have shared my lessons with a music teacher, math teacher,
biology teacher, and journalism teacher and asked their input on how I might
improve my instructional strategies. I was able to take the advice and
feedback they gave me and design and execute a successful lesson. This
experience has taught me the importance of leadership and collaboration.
My lesson was planned very carefully and guided by other professionals in
the school community which was all centered on student learning and
achievement.
Communicating with parents is another major aspect to this standard. This
past week I have had direct communication via email with a parent
discussing her students performance with this past unit. I have participated
in many professional settings and have learned the importance of
collaboration and leadership to ensure learner growth and success in the
classroom.
The artifact provided is a screenshot of an email I recently sent to a parent.
This email exemplifies myself as someone advocating for parental
involvement, and communicating with families.
