Lab Assignment 4 1

This document outlines two lab assignments for an engineering course. The first assignment involves using CAD software to model and simulate bending stresses on a cantilever beam subjected to a force. The second assignment tasks the student with modeling a single-point cutting tool to specified dimensions and tool signature values. A bonus assignment involves freely sketching a drill bit model. The student is instructed to provide screenshots and CAD files as evidence of completing the assignments.

Lab Assignment 4_IECD301

Shane Holbrook
1. Problem 1 (Due by 10:20 am today):
Consider a steel cantilever beam with dimension
10in X 0.5in X 0.375 in, which is fixed at one end
and subjected to a force in the another end. The
force is in Z- direction and has a magnitude of 50
lb.

Apply Support
Apply Load
Solve the Model

What you need to do for submission:

A. Print screen an isometric view of bending stresses plot and paste it here,
discuss what you find from results.

That the beam cannot withstand the force it is subjected to and therefore is
forced to bend.
B. What equation could be used to verify your results? Is it same with last
assignment?
Bending Stress = M(y)/I
Yes the same as the last assignment.
Problem 2:
Using a 3D CAD program create a solid model of a single point cutting tool shown
below. Create expressions that reproduce the variables of the ANSI tool signature
shown below. The body of the tool should be .500 x .500 x 3.0. Assign the values
given in the diagram. (Due 10:20 am today)
(Tool signature: 10 20 7 6 8 15 1/32)
What you need to do for submission:
A. Print screen an isometric view of single point tool plot and paste it here

B.

C. Submit your CAD file to submission of linkage.

Bonus Points (10 points) (Due by Friday 9/19/14 11:59 pm)

Create a model of a drill bit. Sketch freely.
A. Print screen an isometric view of drill bit and paste it here
B. Submit your CAD file to submission of linkage.
