Smart Sensors

A smart sensor has three main parts: a sensing element, signal processing component, and a microprocessor. It combines the sensor and associated electronics onto a single chip. This allows it to perform tasks like signal conditioning and data processing directly on the sensor. An example is the ADXL345 accelerometer sensor, which uses a mass-spring system to detect acceleration and includes electronics for functions like power supply, signal conditioning, and digital output through interfaces like SPI and I2C. Smart sensors offer advantages over conventional sensors like smaller size, lower power consumption, and greater accuracy through digital control. They are increasingly being incorporated into various applications.

Smart Sensors:
Advantages
A smart sensor takes over the load of signal
conditioning and control of sensor signal
reducing the load on central control system
allowing faster system operations
As compared to Conventional Sensor they
have smaller size
Low Power Consumption
Direct digital control provides high accuracy
not achievable with analogue control systems
