Standard 5
Standard 5
Standard five explains the importance of knowing the developmental domains and
creating a meaningful curriculum as an educator. It is crucial to choose the correct content and
develop activities that are stimulating for children. Technology is an important part of
professional development; thus, technological awareness and knowledge is a must in todays
world in order to create a challenging curriculum and learning environment. Incorporating and
using the different technology and resources such as computers, iPads, printers, and word
processors for classroom activities facilitates learning tremendously. Hence, a meaningful
curriculum promotes better learning experiences and success for young children.
The artifact that I chose for this standard was the thematic resource file from CHD 118:
Language, Arts for Young Children. I had to make a Weebly website, a resource that I used for
the first time. It was an intriguing and a creative project. I made developmentally, age
appropriate activities, keeping in perspective the interests and influences of the children. The
content had to correlate with the theme and standards as well. This assignment clearly showed
the understanding and the implementation of different resources. I got a vivid understanding of
the importance of developing a meaningful curriculum, by doing this assignment.
Moving forward I will demonstrate the understanding of the central concepts, inquiry
tool/resources and the structure of content areas. As an early childhood professional I know not
only what is important in each content area, but also why it is important. Children bring their
own individual knowledge and skills in class. With the knowledge that I gained from this
standard I will be in a better position to facilitate and support in their learning. I feel more
confident in using the different resources, in order to be an effective and productive professional.
