Sickle cell disease is the name for an error with a protein in a group of red blood cells.
This protein is called hemoglobin and people with this disease have hemoglobin S or
sickle hemoglobin, in their red blood cells. This disease is inherited from the genes of
the mother and father. When a person has two hemoglobin S genes, Hemoglobin SS,
the disease is called sickle cell anemia.These properly functioning cells are shaped like
discs and this allows the cell to be flexible.
Sasha: With the help of our treatment you, your, friends, and your family members lives
that have been affected and altered by sickle cell anemia and disease can change.
