    A Solar Powered School District
    Overview
    This project will be to research Utahs city school districts, and their use of energy. I hypothesize
    that institutions within Utah are wasting money by using traditional methods. If my hypothesis is
    correct I would like to try and organize a way for school districts to transition to solar power,
    which not only has a potential of saving money, but also is more ecofriendly. The money saved
    from converting can be used to first pay off the transition, and then once paid; it may be
    distributed to school curriculum, or even be donated to charity.
    Problem Statement:
    How does this need to be addressed & what needs to be achieved to convert school districts to
    greener methods of energy?

    Rationale
    Utah is one of the nations greatest locations to harness solar energy, and this
    project will require critical thinking & professional business skills to bring forth
    further recognition in implementing solar power throughout school districts. It
    would be cost effective. As well as benefit the environment, and economy by
    means of education & jobs.
    Feasibility
    Currently, solar power in Utah has the capacity to provide almost a third of all
    electricity used in the United States (Wikipedia) and he public eye is in support
    on both state & national levels. Schools & nonprofit organizations all over the
    nation have been correlating to increase solar power use, and in much worse
    conditions than Utah, yet Utahs has not followed. The economy within the state
    is prospering, and optimizing the use of solar power would be a wise, feasible,
    investment.

    Collecting research & reports on organizations that have integrated to solar power
    would be of great use. Companies that have been known to have a helping hand in
    the industry will also be valid.
    Goal Zero: Sells portable solar panels, battery packs, accessories and
    lighting for hikers and outdoor hobbyists. CEO Atkin worked as a senior
    manager at the private equity firm Sorenson Capital before joining. The
    company has raised $25 million from Mercato Partners, Sorenson
    Capital and others since founding (Forbes).

    Utah Olympic Oval Solar Project: At a cost of $1.4 million, the Utah Olympic Oval
    Solar Project is largest solar project to date of the Utah state Division of Construction and
    Facilities Management and is expected to pay for itself in five years and end up saving
    $3.7 million over its 20-year life (Roche).

    NC GREEN POWER: As a nonprofit we strive to improve the quality of the


    environment in North Carolina through a statewide program that connects consumers
    with green energy and carbon offset providers (NC Green Power).
