Standards:
o 2.2.4 Ask questions about charted observations and graphed data. Identify the day-to-day
patterns and cycles of weather. Understand seasonal time scales in terms of temperature
and amounts of rainfall and snowfall.
Chaperones:

Five chaperones, one for each group


Chaperones pay their own fees ($5.50/first hour, $4.50/each additional hour.
Parents can sign up to be chaperones.
I will pick five out of a hat at random.

Transportation:
o One bus needed for all children and chaperones.

Lunch:
o We will eat lunch at 12:30.
o All students should bring a packed lunch with a drink.
o I will provide a case of water for the students.
Expenses:
o $125/first hour, $100/each additional hour. (Plan to spend about two hours),
o Buses used for six hours, $72.

8:00: Students and chaperones arrive at Ivy Tech.


8:00-8:30: Get groups together, attendance, name tags, and lunches all marked with

names and bagged up to store on bus.


8:30: Bathroom break
8:40-9:00: Board bus, take attendance
9:05: Depart from Ivy Tech
9:45: Arrive at planetarium
9:45-9:50: Bathroom break
10:00: First activity
o Sun, Seasons, & Directions - This show illustrates how the Suns direct rays
change over a period of time creating seasonal phenomena. Students will learn
how to find their directions in both the day and the night sky. Some characteristics

of the Sun will be presented to illustrate the physical properties of a star.


11:00: Second activity:
o Moon Madness This hands-on lab explores the motions of the Moon so students
can actively chart the basic lunar phases. Meteors, meteorites, comets, and

asteroids can also be covered in this interactive program.


12:00-12:15: Free roam with chaperone and groups
12:15-12:30: Regroup and retrieve lunches
12:30-1:00: Eat lunch
1:15: Clean up lunches, bathroom break
1:25: Board buses, take attendance
1:30: Depart from planetarium to go back to Ivy Tech Community College
2:10: Arrive at Ivy Tech Community
2:10-2:25: Bathroom break, discussion about field trip, pack students up
2:30: Students are dismissed for day

Follow-up activity:
o Worksheet where students must describe the seasons and put them in order that they
happen.
Safety/Medication:

o All parents should notify me of conditions before field trip.
o I will have a first aid kit and any medications that students need to take.
o Parents should provide whatever is needed for the student with a doctors note, such as an
inhaler, epi pen, etc.
