Inquiry-based Lesson

In this report, I will write about the design of my math activity with relation to the process of
inquiry. I will do a comparing lesson to the class that Im observing on TP, which is ELCC
and I choose comparing because I think that children in this age always compares between
things around them.
My Lesson Plan:
Engage: Its when the teacher uses a question or event to engage students.
- Before I start my lesson I will engage the students by asking them to stand in front of the
class and I will ask them to classify them self into two groups, one for girls and the other for
boys, then they should compare and see who's more.
Explore: Give students a hands-on activity to explore or to know more about the lesson
and let them involved with the materials.
- I divide them into five groups, each group have five children. I will give each group two
boxes and 10 balls, children can make a comparing formula by putting balls randomly, for
example, Ahmed will put 5 balls in each box, so its will be equal, but Noura will put six balls
in the first box and 4 in the other, after that she will tell me if it equal, more or less than the
other box.
Explain: When the students explain what did they understand from the activity.
- After they finished the activity students will explain why did they say that one of the
boxes is more, equal or less than the other box.
Elaborate: Students share their idea and their own experiments with each other.
- When they will finish explaining, I will ask them few question about their own life such
as, how many brothers you have?!, and who want to share us he should stand in front of the
class.
Evaluate: Its when the teacher determines if the students understood the concepts or
not. Students will think again about the initial question and maybe taken some new
decisions.
- In the end, of the lesson, we will give them a worksheet. The worksheet will include some
question about which one is more and which on is less or equal and they should trace the
right answer.
In my opinion, doing a lesson plan for my lessons that includes the 5es will help me to
organize my time and to know what I will do in the classroom. Also, I will be prepared well
for the lesson.
