IchosetoscoreeachofthecomponentsofPartOnewitharatingofProficient
becauseourschoolsmission,vision,andcorevalueshavebeenestablished.Our
schoolwasopenedthreeyearsagoandweareundernewleadershipforthethirdtime.
Ournewprincipalisplacinganemphasisonbuildingastrongschoolimprovement
team.Allteammembersareworkingdiligentlytounderstandtheirrolesand
responsibilities.Wehavecreatedasoundschoolimprovementplanandaremaking
stridestoensurethatallstakeholdersareawareoftheplanandimplementitwith
fidelity.

PartThree
ThemostimportantstepsIwouldtakeasaschoolleadertoimproveorenhancemy
schoolscurrentstatusofitsidentityare:
Makevisualrepresentationsofourschoolsmission,vision,andcorebeliefsto
bedisplayedinhightrafficareasofourschoolbuilding(Example:framed
displaysintheareanearthemainentrance,bulletinboards,etc.)forall
stakeholderstosee.
Planandimplementactivitieswithallstakeholdersstudents,staff,andparents,
tomakethemawareofourmission,vision,andcorebeliefs.Usecommon
languagetoensurethateveryoneisawareandembracestheseconcepts.
Encourageteacherleadershipamongthemembersoftheschoolimprovement
teambypresentingthemwithtasksthatbuildtheircapacityandincreasethe
knowledgeofeveryoneintheschool.

Assignment1.3PersonalReflectiononStrategicLeadership

IbelievethattheNCPAPAHighPerformanceModelidentifiesStrategic
LeadershipasthedriverofthesevenNCSSEbecausetheestablishmentofthe
componentsofthisstandardisvitaltobuildingandgrowinganeffectiveschoolculture.
Itisverydifficulttoembracethewhatorthehowofthesystemswithinaschool
withoutunderstandingthewhy.Ibelievethatallstakeholdersplayanimportantrolein
creatingtheschoolsbrand.Schoolleaders,teachers,supportstaff,students,parents,
andcommunitymembersareallresponsibleforsendingthemessageofhowwedo
business.Thereshouldbecommonlanguageandactions.

Movingforward,IwillcontinuetogleanimportantinformationregardingStrategic
Leadershipfromtheexemplarschoolsthatwevisit.Iwillpayspecialattentiontohow
mymentorprincipalfacilitatestheschoolimprovementmeetings.Iamnoticinghowhe

ismakingsurethatteammembersarewellawareofthegoals,objectives,andthe
processandthenslowlybutsurelyrelinquishingmoreresponsibilitytotheteam.Asa
youngschoolwithaveryhighnumberofbeginningteachers,wearebuildingtoalevel
ofusingourschoolimprovementplanasaguidebywhichwemakealldecisions
regardingourschool.Iwillalsocontinuetolearnstrategiesthatcanbeimplementedto
involveallstakeholdersintheprocess.
