Narrative
This curriculum map comes from Highland Lakes Elementary School District. The following lessons were created for the
kindergarten classrooms. The classroom varies because I am attending the SPED portion.
Mini Lesson One
Sleep
Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details
regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure. (1.W.3)
For the first day of this lesson the students will learn about the importance of sleep. The students will have to learn to sequence
what they need to do to get a good night sleep. The students goal is to be able to learn what steps they need to take to get some sleep.
The students will start with a good breakfast, physical activity, brushing teeth, and then finally sleeping. The students will use the
example for a model about how to create theirs. The students will watch the video about the proper steps they need to take to achieve
this important part of their day.
CURRICULUM MAP
The students will be provided with materials to crate their own sequence to get sleep. The students will have to show the steps
that they take to get to sleep. The students will have to explain to the class out loud why they chose those steps and why they are
important to their everyday life. This will help the students use their prior knowledge and be able to explain why they do the things
they do to get to sleep.
CURRICULUM MAP
use the materials to come up with their own short story to show the steps to take for sun safety. The students will then share the story
with their class and share key details of their classmates stories.
