We Opened a Flower Shop

We learned about Flowers

We learned about Drums and made our own!

And we celebrated Earth Day!

We also had a number of students that had to leave during the day
due to illness. We truly DO understand that it is not easy to have
sick little ones, but we kindly remind you to please make every
effort to keep your child home if they are unwell. A dose of
Tylenol and sending them to school merely spreads the bug to
classmates. Thank you in advance!

In Language: We learned about the life cycle and the parts of a flower and what it
needs to grow. We did some writing around this. We continued some work on
sequencing events. We read nonsense words using kinesthetics to practice our
sounding and decoding. We interchanged beginning sounds, ex. changing Log to Dog.
We learned a new Springtime poem and counted the number of words in each
sentence.which allowed us to review sentences! We counted syllables and rymed
words. We learned about Earth Day and what we think about on this day.
Emory presented a book talk on Im A Big Sister! and Paxton shared Spiderman
with us. Both did an excellent job!
Miss Mason read us our last Blue Spruce story. Next week we vote for our
favourite! We exchanged our books.
Gym: We were outside for 2 classes. We worked on gross motor skills. We
continued to practice our ball skills. We also used scarves to move to music and
express how the music made us feel.
We worked with Mrs. Boughners class on our Dance Fest Dance which is upcoming
on Thursday May 5. For those who are unable to attend, we will video the dance
AND all dancers from St. Mark will show their dances in our own gym on Friday
May 6 at 1:00.
Religion: We celebrated new signs of life. We continued to look for signs of new
life. We talked about the earth and ways even WE can help the earth stay healthy.
Science: We celebrated Spring weather and the signs of Spring. Kessler brought in
an AMAZING water bug that we looked at under high magnification on the
SmartBoard. Ultra Cool!
Miss Angenent worked with the kids to plant some sunflower seeds.
In Art: Miss Angngent worked with the children to make an Earth Day craft.
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. Miss Angenent has been talking with the children about how music
makes them feel. They used scarves to express how various pieces of music made
them feel. Also, noticing the children were showing an interest in drums, Miss

Angenent showed several drum videos and encouraged the children to make and
play their own. It was loud but very HAPPY!
In Mathematics: We concluded 2D shapes and assessments were sent home. We
began studying 3D shapes the sphere, cone, pyramid, rectangular prism, cube and
the cylinder.
In Personal and Social Development: With the weather being up and down, we
encouraged the children to dress in layers. The rule at recess on a warmer day
( but not quite yet warm!) is NO BARE ARMS. The children are happy to go out in a
sweatshirt in lieu of a coat on these days.
We had a Roots of Empathy visit from Mrs. Krug. She talked about communication
and used some American Sign Language with the children. We were able to show
off our song Teaching Peace that we learned back in November! We also leanred
Twinkle Twinkle in sign language.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Miss Angenent encouraged the children to dig for bugs
in dirt. She had the children build and label the parts of a flower. Drumming was
big!
Other activities included fine motor and vocabulary development.
