Research into competitors

While the drum & bass genre remains to be a small market typically being refined to UK audiences,
their is still a lot of competition within the market. Chase & Status are well known to be one of the
most successful artists within the drum & bass genre, which works to my benefit because it tell me
that my music video will be successful and will produce a profit. However, like mention before, their
is a lot of competition within the market. Most drum & bass artists remain relatively small, however
some artists such as Pendulum, Sigma, and Andy C prove to be a challenge for my music video.
Pendulum
Pendulum are a unique case within the drum & bass act as they are not actually from the UK.
Pendulum started off in Australia as a group who were known for combining electric music with the
hard rock genre. However after hearing a drum & bass song in a club, they were inspired to work
within the drum & bass genre. Subsequently they met their third member Paul Harding, a veteran
in drum & bass, and Pendulum was truly formed. However Pendulum did move to the UK, possibly
due to the sheer popularity of the drum & bass market in the UK. As can be seen below Pendulum
have always been known as one of the more commercially successful acts within an drum & bass
genre, proving to be successful in their sales.

commercially successful internationally
entering into more of the foreign music
charts. This means that they could prove
to be one of my main competitors.
Furthermore this is a music video for one
of their most popular songs. The view
count is above 25million, and reached
almost over 10million more views than
Chase & Status most watched music
video.

Wilkinson
Wilkinson is one of the more popular upcoming drum & bass DJs in the UK at the moment, just
finishing his UK tour. Wilkinson has the upper hand over Chase & Status in the drum & bass
market at the moment because he is a young producer, who is still showing the market what he
can do. He is very popular within the drum & bass market, playing at many festivals over the
summer and also dropping a second album at some point this year.
Andy C
The final competitor I will be talking about is British DJ Andy C. Andy C is regarded as the
pioneering force in the drum & bass genre, being known as the DJ who made the genre as
popular as it has become. Andy C is also the founding member of RAM Records, a drum & bass
record company. They have been known to sign to some of the most popular artists of drum &
bass, including Wilkinson and Chase & Status themselves. Also Andy C has one Best DJ at the
Drum & Bass Arena Awards every year since its incarnation in 2009. However this may not seem
to be an issue, being that Chase & Status are one of the few drum & bass acts to be awarded with
a Brit award.
