THE
INDIANINDEPENDENCE ACT, 1947
The provisions of the Act were as follows:
1.The Act provided for the creation of two independent Dominions- India & Pakistan from 15th August 1947. 2.Each Dominion was to have a GovernorGeneral who was to be appointed by the King. 3.The Constituent Assemblies of both Dominions were empowered to frame laws for their respective territories till the new Constitution came into force.

4. After Aug. 15, 1947 the British Govt. was
to control the Dominion or the Provinces. 5. For the time being, till the new Constitutions were framed, each of the Dominions & the Provinces were to be governed by the GOI, 1935. 6. The post of Secretary of the State for India was to be abolished & was taken over by Secretary of the Commonwealth of Nations.

paramountcy over Indian States. The Indian Independence Act, 1947 came into force on August 15, 1947, when the British rule in India came to an end.
The first meeting of the Assembly was
held on 9th Dec 1946 as the sovereign Constituent Assembly for India. On Dec. 11, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected its permanent Chairman. The report of the Committees formed the basis on which the first draft, a Drafting Committee of 7 members was set up under the Chairmanship of Dr. Ambedkar.
1947-1950: THE FRAMING OF NEW
CONSTITUTION
The Draft Constitution was published in Jan
1948. The new Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 th Nov 1949 & signed by the President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Articles 5-9, 60, 324, 366, 367, 372, 380, 388, 391-393 came into force at once. The remaining provisions of the Constitution came into force on 26th Jan 1950, which is the date of the commencement of the Constitution.
