Math Reflection
After reading from the mathematics framework, I realized that the
knowledge that teachers need to teach mathematics in elementary classroom is
quite different from the knowledge of other users of mathematics. Teachers must
be prepared to deeply understand the mathematical ideas such as concepts and
reasoning skills. As educators, we are expected to be able to represent and connect
mathematical ideas so students may understand them. In the math framework, it
mentioned that teachers must be able assess student learning through a varity of
methods. Teachers also are expected to fully understand the mathematical content
of state standards and grade level expectations. One of the many great tips in the
math framework is for teachers to communicate learning goals to parents and
education officials. For instance, administrators providing support for teacher by
introducing and explaining the California common core state standards to parents.
The math framework discusses that math is one of the most important subjects
because it prepares students for a better future with more opportunities to success.
For all those type of knowledge that teachers need to know and the expectation of
students there must be more mathematical programs that prepare teachers to be
better educators and prepare students for college and careers.
Before taking
those courses I was able to solve math problems but I was not able to explain the
reasoning of the answers, and I learned how to explain the answers of the problem
solving.
