Tsar Character Analysis Project

TSAR Character Analysis Display/Reflective Essay


Purpose:
To look at modern variations of the TSAR characters and use the knowledge gathered to project
their life path. Using the idea of masculinity and femininity, we will make connections with
people of today that share similar characteristics. We will also be using what we know about the
characters to better understand the possibilities of their potential futures and why they are headed
in that direction.
Choose one of the two options for your project:
Option #1: Masculinity/Femininity Display

Choose two characters from the novel


o Describe their masculine/feminine characteristics
o Support your claims with evidence and quotes (with page #s)
Choose a modern day celebrity, TV, or movie character that you believe is a modern day
equivalent of your chosen characters
o Provide specific background on the individuals
Who is this person? What does he/she do?
o You must make a minimum of three direct correlations between the TSAR
characters and their modern day equivalents
You display must:
Contain pictures
Be self-explanatory
Able to be seen from a distance

Option #2: Present/Future Display

Choose two characters from the novel


o Provide a claim of how they live their lives (for the present or for the future)
o Support your claims with evidence and quotes (with page #s)
Write a brief story about what will become of you characters 20 years after the novel
o Examples: Do they still know each other? Still living in Paris? Dead?
o Explain why you believe this
Provide evidence on the idea of the Lost Generation to support your
claim
o Create a graphic in the form of social media to provide a visual for your story
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

To make personal connections with the themes of the novel. To acknowledge the change or lack
thereof in regards to gender norms and the way we live.
Choose the prompt:

A time when your masculinity/femininity was challenged.


A time when you witnessed someone's masculinity/femininity being challenged.
A time when you did not agree with gender stereotypes.
A time when you were only living for the present and how it affected you.
A time when you were only living for the future and how it affected you.
A time when you were concerned about how a friend was living their life
(present/future).

Essay Requirements:

You essay needs to include a minimum of five paragraphs

Your paragraphs need to include the following in that order:
