In the last couple of years there seems to be more political groups protesting
something or another. The National Tea Party was formed to protest the Obama
Administration’s policies. The “birthers” came into existence for the purpose of
arguing the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s birth in the United States. It seems there
has been a much-heated debate on whether our Commander-in-Chief is really an
American citizen or not. The long-standing story goes is Obama was born in Hawaii
but the “birthers” argument is that he produced a false birth certificate in order to
run for President and really was born in Kenya. If the later is actually true, then he
wouldn’t be eligible to be President of the United States because of his alleged birth
place. Birthers tend to be a very radical and vocal group at that.
The National Tea Party really has yet to have an allegiance with the Republican
Party but they tend to be more along the neo-conservative persuasion.
Another thing that seems to be the craze lately is politicians jumping party lines and
becoming Independents, etc. Is this a sign of the times to come or just a trend?
Perhaps disillusion with their own party’s shenanigans, disloyalties and tactics is
causing them to jump ship. The most recent causalities in the battle of the political
wars is Florida governor, Charlie Crist who recently abandoned the Republican
party to run as an Independent for the Florida state senate race and not so recently,
Joe Lieberman, Connecticut senator who also became an Independent a few years
back. As we all well know, he was Al Gore’s running mate in the infamous 2000
Presidential election. It’s amazing that in just a few years things and how political
views can change.
