Fort Collins, Colorado located in Larimer County is a growing city of approximately 155,400 people,
with annual growth rate of 2.04%. About 53% of Fort Collins citizens have had at least four years of
higher education, compared to the national average of 32%. The average household income in Fort
Collins is just over $53,000, and according the Bureau of Labor Statistics, has an unemployment rate of
just 4.1% as of January 2015. Some of the major employers in Fort Collins are: Advanced Energy, Avago
Technologies, City of Fort Collins, Colorado State University, Hewlett Packard, Poudre School District,
and Wal-Mart Supercenter, to name a few.

Cache La Poudre (CLP) Middle School is located on the outskirts of Fort Collins. It serves just 320
students, and employs 22 full-time teachers. Fourteen of their 22 full-time teachers hold Masters degrees
or higher, and there is an average student:teacher ratio of 14:1. CLP is an IB World School, which focuses
on developing ten different Learner Profiles in students. The ten IB Learner Profiles are Inquirer,
Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced and
Reflective.

Course: English 8, Honors


The eighth-grade English course is devoted to developing communication and thinking skills through the
integrated study of language, literature, and writing. Language study emphasizes sentence patterns,
punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, and usage. The study of the writing process includes further
development of skills and working with multi-paragraph writings in narrative, descriptive, and expository
writing. The study of literature includes the genre or thematic approach, stressing an understanding of
literary terminology and author's purpose.This course is recommended for the student who seeks
additional information and depth in literature and writing. The curriculum follows the guidelines of the
required English 8, adding materials and projects for highly motivated students. Students are offered
opportunities to explore a variety of reading and writing and to pursue areas of interest in depth.
Students at CLP are on a block schedule, This class will meet every Monday for 44 minutes, every
Tuesday for 78 minutes, and every Thursday for 91 minutes.
