Genetic Diseases Research Presentation

You and a partner will choose a genetic disease/disorder from the list below. After doing
significant research on the disease/disorder, you will create PowerPoint presentation
that you will present to the class.

Gaucher Disease

Jackson-Weiss Syndrome

Maple Syrup Urine Disease
McLeod Syndrome
Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Phenylketonuria
Prader-Willi Syndrome
Sickle Cell Anemia
Tay-Sachs Disease
von Hippel-Lindau Disease
Your presentation must include the following, in the following order:
1) Title Slide Your title slide must include both authors names, period, and date.
You must also include a picture of a representation of your disease (this could be
a person with the disease, the chromosome where the disease is located, or
another image)
2) Cause The second slide in the presentation will show how the disease is
inherited. Is it dominant/recessive, sex-linked, co-dominant, or incomplete
dominance? Is it caused by a mutation?
3) Punnett Square If the disease is not caused by a mutation on a chromosome,
the third slide should include a Punnett square showing ALL possible outcomes
of ALL POSSIBLE GENETIC CROSSES
4) Effects What are the effects (physical, mental, emotional, intellectual) of
having this disease? Include at least one picture on this slide.
5) Prognosis What is the prognosis for a person with the disease? How long will
they live? What will their quality of life be? Are there any cures for the disease?

You will be allowed to use note cards when you are presenting. When you present your
PowerPoint to the class, you will be graded on the following:
1) Delivery Your audience must be able to hear you when you present. You must
also make eye contact with your audience.
2) Content Is your presentation interesting? Is your PowerPoint visually
appealing?
3) Evidence of Rehearsal Your presentation must flow smoothly. This is done by
practicing your presentation with your partner.
You and your partner both must speak for an equal amount of time during the
presentation. You should distribute the content of your presentation evenly.
