1. Transforming children into readers

The Jefferson County Library offers several programs to encourage
children to read. These include weekly story times, the 1000 Books Before
Kindergarten program, and the summer reading programs for kids and
teens.
2. Transforming adults into computer users
The Jefferson County Library offers free basic computer classes for adults.
Topics include exploring the Internet, Microsoft Word, searching for jobs
online, Overdrive e-books, and Kindles.
3. Transforming plans into deeds
The Jefferson County Library provides several unique items for checkout to
help patrons accomplish goals and plans. These include seeds for
gardeners, cake pans for bakers, knitting needles for knitters, and
telescopes for amateur astronomers.
4. Transforming thought into action
The Jefferson County Library offers health kits for checkout to its patrons.
The health kits allow people to try out new fitness materials before
purchasing the items for themselves. Kits are available for yoga, walking,
disc golf, soccer, pilates, jump rope and much more.
These are just four examples of ways in which a library can transform a life.
Visit the Jefferson County Library and see how your life can be
transformed.

National Poetry Month

April 2016
National Poetry Month is the month-long, national
celebration of poetry. It is a time to widen the attention
of the public to the art of poetry, to living poets, and to
our poetic heritage. The Academy of American Poets
suggests these great tips for teaching poetry in your
classroom.
Begin each class with a poem by a different poet.
Create a class poem with each student contributing
one line.
Create poems featuring words from a set word list.
Organize a student poetry reading.
Decorate the classroom with posters of poets and
illustrated poems.
Write poems in the voice of another person.
Check out some great poetry books at the library.
