Lets CHAT!
Small Group Health
Coaching Pilot Program The Lets CHAT! program was a six week pilot program designed to provide participants with the tools, social support, and accountability to assist in their weight loss journeys. Eligible employees who completed all six sessions will earn their Weight Smart Badge, worth $50, in the Healthy Rewards payout on September 22, 2016. Marketing for the program occurred through the LiveLifeWell portal and registration was on a first-come, first-serve basis. The health coaching program was held at Moses Cone Hospital, with two session times available, 12:00pm-12:30pm and 12:30pm-1:00pm. Each session time was capped around six participants to ensure the small group environment. The sessions were facilitated by two Certified Health and Wellness Coaches. Thirteen employees originally registered to participate in the program, with nine attending. The 12:00pm-12:30pm group consisted of five participants and the 12:30pm1:00pm group consisted of four participants. One group member from the 12pm session only attended three sessions and one group member from the 12:30pm session had to drop out of the session due to time conflicts. Therefore, seven of the original nine (78%) employees successfully completed the program and will earn their Weight Smart Badge. Majority of the sessions were held face-to-face, but telephonic coaching was offered as a makeup option for those who could not attend. Employees were provided with a Welcome Packet, prior to the beginning of the program, which described the coaching alliance and asked thought provoking questions in preparation for the first week of health coaching. The first week of the Lets CHAT! program provided participants with the format of the sessions, what to expect from the program, and what a health coach is. Each group member received a Wheel of Life Satisfaction Tool and a Health Coaching Pre-Survey to complete. The following four weeks of the program provided tools (adapted from UNCGs Health Coaching Programs) for group members to work through, group discussion, and action planning/goal setting. The final week consisted of completing a final Wheel of Life Satisfaction Tool, a Health Coaching Post-Survey, and a Program Satisfaction Survey. The group members compared their pre and post-materials, discussed the changes they have made over the course of the program, and provided feedback to the facilitators. The results from the pre/post materials, goal progression, and program satisfaction results of the group and provided below. In addition to the graphs and tables to illustrate the progress made by employees over the six weeks, their feedback about the program is as follows:
1. How could we improve the Lets CHAT! program?
Longer time if possible. Accountability partners established. Meet on a different day during the week, i.e. a Wednesday. Maybe have a midweek check-in via phone or email-more accountability. It was great. Maybe longer? More meetings- 12 weeks, some sort of additional check-in midweek. Offer more sessions- 6 weeks seemed too short. I feel like were just getting started/getting to know each other. Longer session (1 hr. vs. hr.), 12 weeks vs. 6 weeks. Time and day was good for me. Sharing with coworkers is a good resource. Depending on the amount of people attending maybe have more than just one day a week. That way people can pick on more than just one day. Be more flexible with schedules (days and time). 2. Is there anyone who deserves special recognition (did something outstanding)? Becca and Lindsey were AWESOME! Lindsey did a great job facilitating useful conversations that encouraged us and held us accountable. Becca is always awesome too! Lindsey and Becca were awesome co-facilitators-very positive, helpful, and motivating. Lindsey and Becca did GREAT JOB!! It is always nice to have Becca in the group. She is always positive and present. Lindsey made a wonderful job with all the material. Becca and Lindsey both deserve special recognition for putting this together. 3. Other comments: Thanks for this opportunity! Have a group established at specific sites (MCHP ) if enough interest from employees. Might be nice to have more specific groups- such as for stress, or weight, or time management, etc. I thought the size of the group was very appropriate and loved writing goals out each week for accountability. I loved that the facilitators also did goals and were transparent when they didnt completely meet them. It was great to have an option to connect by phone (when needed), but face-toface was better for me-accountability and motivation. Great program! Really well done.
