Programs/Tools Used:
Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
Description:
This is a two-sided folding brochure created with six panels and five flaps.
Process:
I drew out my ideas on pieces of paper to figure out how to fold the brochure. Using these
drafts as guides, I opened InDesign and used ruler guides to divide the front and back
pages in thirds on the long edge and in half on the short edge.
In Adobe Illustrator, I made 12 art boards to represent each panel on my brochure (front
and back) with the appropriate dimensions. I created the animal and track graphics using
the shape and pen tools. I then copied these images and pasted them in my InDesign
document, rotating them appropriately. I pulled the background images from Unsplash.
com, edited the coloring in Photoshop, and placed them in the document.
I inserted my text and cropped the text box so it would wrap around the images.

Description:
These are 3 variations of the same logo created with Adobe Illustrator for a
fictional company.
Process:
For coming up with the company name, I wanted it to sound African and give a safari feel.
I thought of the African state Mozambique and decided to play off of that and put the
word beads in there. I knew I wanted to use a giraffe for my logo image, so I drew out
different ideas on a piece of paper. After i had a couple of ideas set in stone, I used Adobe
Illustrator to create the shapes and designs that I had drawn. I used the shape tool and
pen tool to make the giraffe and bead shapes. The giraffe legs create the letter shapes of
the company name: M and b. Or it could be M and O.

Joel Judkins; Comm 130-06 Visual Media
Programs/Tools Used:
HTML/CSS and TextWrangler, Canon Rebel T5 camera, Photoshop
Description:
This is a webpage designed to showcase a personally created logo.
Process:
I inserted my logo and attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I couldnt find
any background images that really matched my color scheme and logo design,so I used my
camera to take my own picture. I set up wooden beads and used an orange background
with orange lights to illuminate them. I wanted to make sure there was turquoise in the
picture to match my logo, so I placed a turquoise bracelet on top of the wooden beads.
After sorting through several different pictures I had taken, I chose one that fit well with
my web page. I opened the picture in Photoshop and used an eyedropper tool to match
the colors and set my color scheme. I wanted to use the same font in my logo for the title,
but keep a simpler sans-serif font for the rest of the text. I changed the weights and styles
accordingly to add interest to the design. I declared some backup fonts just in case the
viewers browser didnt have these fonts. The most difficult part of the design was curving
the edges on the border itself. I wanted to imitate the curved edges in my logo. Though its
impossible to see with a picture, the link to my blog turns turquoise and is underlined when
you hover over it with a mouse.

Description:
This is an Event Ad created only with a scanned image and Microsoft Word.
Process:
I inserted the scanned image and chose colors using the color scheme in the image. I
wanted to bring attention to who was sponsoring it, so I used the AdoptUSKids logo and
put it right above the title. I wanted the Date Time and Place to be the next thing to catch
the viewers eye. I made the text bigger and put it right below the bird with open wings,
pulling attention to it. The birds in the image create a natural flow and point to the smaller
text in the bottom corner so it isnt put off to the side. I also added a line in the bottom left
corner that points from the Date Time and Place to the extra info so its seen. I wanted to
create repetition, so I added the three, small squares at the top and bottom left. I added
asymmetry with the slightly transparent rectangles at the top and bottom with different
dimensions and colors.

Process:
I used Adobe Illustrator shapes and previously designed logo to create the business card.
For the front side, I moved the two giraffes closer together and turned the text sideways
to fit in the space to the left. I used the gradient tool to color in the giraffes. For the back
side, I used the bead from the original logo to create the icons on the right. Using the
shape and pen tool, I created each icon to represent the different types of social media. I
then right-aligned the information. I placed a simple black version of my logo at the left to
tie the whole business card together with repetition. The gradient color on the giraffes was
repeated on the back to create unity.

Programs/Tools Used:
Adobe Illustrator
Description:
This is a cover letter design using a personally created logo.
Process:
To make the stationery, I based it off of the design on the business card (previous page). I
copied the giraffes from the front side of the business card, enlarged them, and made the
more opaque. I really wanted the beads to be emphasized, so I lined them at the top. I put
the contact information at the bottom left and aligned it with Mozambeads to balance out
the page as a whole. Finally I added a light tan background to unify the page as a whole.

Programs/Tools Used:
Photoshop
Description:
This is flier created only with Photoshop and an image that I photographed.
Process:
I used a Canon T5 DSLR camera to take this picture. Using Photoshop, I added the colored
shapes on the left and inserted text boxes for the title and body text. I made sure to align
the title and subtitle at the right margin. I arched the body text to match the curve of the
ukulele. The title is bold and darker to draw the viewers eye. The way the ukulele points
down leads their eye to the information at the bottom.

Description:
This is a simple black and white flier using a provided image and text.
Process:
After sketching out various options for the flier, I chose one along with the logo. I
Photoshopped the picture to crop the background and placed it in the middle to grab
attention. I like how magazines place the title slightly behind the picture, so I did that to
add depth and interest to the design. After creating the title, I wanted to create flow by
leading the viewers eye through the picture down to the womans hand which points to
the text below. Although the date, time, and place isnt the main focus, I wanted it to be
noticeable, so I isolated it by surrounding it with white space. After the main parts were
aligned, there needed to be contrast. I decided to make the background a gradient fill with
the darkest value on the top and bottom. This made it so I could add interest by making
the title white against a dark background.

Description:
This is a poster where I combined four different images and a quote.
Process:
I used the star picture for the background and inserted the mountain picture. To make it
blend, I blended the edges and raised the opacity. I added the picture of the people on the
hill and only kept their silhouettes to use in the final picture. Finally, I inserted the image
of the sitting woman and placed her so it looks like shes looking at the stars. I wanted
to keep her in focus and make the people in the background more transparent. Finally, I
inserted the quote and chose contrasting typography.
