This week in FDK-3

We celebrated Lucianos 6th Birthday

Happy Birthday Luciano!

And

We celebrated April Fools Day!

In Language: We combined Religion and Language to review Palm Sunday, Holy

Thursday and Good Friday and to celebrate Easter Sunday! We wrote about HOW
we celebrated as families.
We reviewed letter sounds and counting syllables and rhyming.
Bennett presented a book talk on the book Williams Day and Maria shared Kikis
New Friend with us. Both did an excellent job!
Miss Mason read us a Blue Spruce story called In a cloud of Dust and exchanged
our books.
On Friday, we did some writing and drawing about the Lirpaloof Bird.
We learned that the rare Lirpaloof migrates through London in early April. We
learned that it is very shy but that it does respond to treats of carrots and to
singing. We went outside to look up into the trees hoping to spot one.
Gym: On Tuesday morning, we played some Easter games outside to celebrate
Easter. We played The Bunny Hop Relay with foam balls between our legs, a wacky
spoon-egg relay and pass the egg using only our feet! On Thursday, we ran the
Bunny relay, played toss the carrots, and ran The Bunny Shuffle. By popular
demand, we played octopus!
We also worked with Mrs. Boughners class on our Dance Fest Dance which is
upcoming in May.
Religion: We celebrated Easter Sunday as a class. We also celebrated Lucianos
first birthday in Canada. His parents generously brought in a pizza lunch for the
class. Happy 6th Birthday Luciano and thank you for the lunch treat!
Science: We continued recognizing and looking for Signs of Spring.including the
migration patterns of the LIRPALOOF bird!
We planted an Amaryllis bulb.
In Art: Miss Angenent played various kinds of music and asked the children to
close their eyes and paint what they feltit IS possible to paint and dance at the
same time!

In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. Miss Angenent introduced JAZZ music into the lunch hours. This
week, she introduced some musical instruments and talked about the sound each
makes. Watching Peter and the Wolf, the children continued to learn the sound of
various instruments and the music associated with each character.
In Mathematics: We used the Bunny Buzz game to practice rote counting. We
began learning 2-D shapes square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval, diamond,
hexagon and pentagon.
In Personal and Social Development: We had class discussions about listening
during carpet time, winning attitudes, and the social niceties of NOT discussing
birthday parties at school as it ALWAYS hurts someones feelings.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Bridges and roads ruled! After building a winding road,
they watched a video about dangerous roads. After building a tower ( that leaned)
there was lots of discussion about foundations and why the tower didnt fall over.
Other activities included fine motor and vocabulary development.
