Unit Load Method

The document discusses the unit load method for calculating deflection and slope of beams. For deflection, a unit load equal to the actual load units (e.g. kN) is applied, and the deflection is calculated by integrating the moment caused by this unit load over the length of the beam. For slope, a unit couple equal to the actual load units (e.g. kNm) is applied, and the slope is calculated by integrating the moment caused by this unit couple over the length.

As per the equation of unit load method

Deflection:

0

In case to find the deflection, we apply unit load at the point where the deflection is desired. The unit of
load applied will be same as that we have for the real loads( say kN) and if span is given in metres, the
unit of moment will be kNm for both M and m. will be in meters.
