1. The artifacts displayed under Standard 9 were collected during Secondary Practicum in School
Counseling (GEDU 550). This fits within the SS section of the National Model.
Competencies addressed:
2: Consult with teachers and parents about effective classroom management and behavior
management strategies.

2. What do they demonstrate to you about your learning and mastery of the competencies which
fall under this standard?
The artifact displayed here shows communication with staff regarding the counselors group
counseling work for the purpose of bettering classroom behavior/goals. Teachers were
encouraged to excuse students from class in order to implement/utilize behavior management
skills.

3. What do these items of evidence tell you about your overall progress toward your personal
goals and your growth as a professional school counselor?
I believe that this shows that I would like to provide open communication with teachers (as well
as parents). Not only should teachers be aware that I am available to assist with behavior
management personally by providing counseling services, but that I am also able to assist them
in the classroom setting.
4. What are your plans for additional growth or improvement in this area?
To grow and improve in this area, I wish to continue communication with teachers and parents. I
also think a part of this includes providing monthly newsletters. This allows for teachers and
parents to know what topics are being discussed in counseling, as well as services provided.
It may also be quite beneficial to spend time in classrooms, even at the secondary level.
