This assessment is intended to be formative. The teacher must measure what the students
know to find out where they currently stand with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division. It allows for the student to define the terms and also use their critical thinking skills by
filling in the number patterns. Each number line either uses some form of addition, subtraction,
multiplication or division for a specific number, for example, on number line may be a
multiplication of two, the student must figure out what number is missing, once they have
figured out the pattern. Once the assessments are complete, teachers can use the data to find out
where each student is and start their lessons where the instruction is needed. Some students may
need a refresher and some students may already be at the content level.

be stepping foot into the technology world, so the teacher would have to make sure that the
programs are not too difficult.
Time 4 Learning
One of the programs that could be implemented is a mathematics software. Most third
grade teachers do not need multiple math programs for assistance because students of that grade
level is still learning basic math. For this software, math lessons are built upon what the students
have already learned in 2nd grade. This software program introduces basic addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division, number lines and rounding. Eventually, the program excels and students
will learn about decimals, fractions, and money. Students should not move onto the next lesson
without first grasping and applying these concepts to their everyday life skills. These programs
are usually introduced in a fun-filled learning environment (Time 4 Learning, 2016).
Sylvan Tutoring
Since reading is also an essential skill to have to excel in the learning environment, I
think that it is very important to implement a reading software in my classroom. Most 3rd grade
students have a hard time grasping onto information quickly, so it is not unlikely that you will
have a few students that need the extra attention. While most teachers cannot lose focus on the
other children that do receive the information properly, they still have a responsibility to the
students who do not receive the information fast enough. This is where programs like Sylvan
Tutor are essential to implement in the classroom. It is a programed designed for students to
receive extra help in areas that they find difficult to excel in. This program offers tests that
teachers can use to assess students learning (Sylvan Tutoring, 2016).
Achieve 3000
Achieve 3000 is a five step literacy program. This software focuses on English/language
arts. This program seems pretty interesting because it allows for students to be assessed as well
as receive feedback. This program will measure what a student already knows before any reading
is done. The students are then able to read an article following test questions. This allows for
students to have a chance to reflect and also add on to what they already know. The activities
prepared for this program will get a student actively engaged in critical thinking where they can
discuss the reading topics out loud. It is important that group lessons take place so that teachers
receive multiple opinions from students and different perspectives (Achieve, 2016).
Formative and Summative Assessments
Formative assessment is a wide variety of methods that teachers use to conduct
evaluations of student comprehensions, learning needs, and progress during a specific lesson or
course. Whereas, a summative assessment is used to evaluate a students learning at the end of a
unit, for example, a midterm exam or a final project. Formative assessment will allow teachers to
identify the students strengths and weaknesses. The students will also have a chance to see what
areas they are slacking in. This gives the student enough time to fix the areas that need more
attention. The summative assessment will summarize the students learning to see if the student
received the information as indicated (Marchand & Furrer, 2014). The mathematics software
would be used as a summative assessment. It is basically testing what students should have
grasped and multiple similar questions to what the students have already learned will
acknowledge that. Sylvan tutor software and achieve 3,000 for reading and language arts will be
used accommodated by formative assessments. These are lessons where teachers would want to
see what the students know already, and where they need to start in the lesson to catch them up to
speed with the rest of the students.
essays, and so on. Most students can prove that they understand a lesson better without using
technology because it is far less complication. Some students are hands on learners and prefer to
work without the use of technology.
What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?
Technology is very important in the classroom setting. According to the ISTE standards,
teachers must introduce technology at all levels and make sure that students understand and
implement the skills that they are taught to move forward. Teachers are able to correct areas of
concern and by receiving students feedback they can fix the curriculums that are being taught
today as soon as the issues are discovered. Teachers must insure that they are giving their
students a fair trial and the technology must match the students grade level standards (ISTE,
2016).
Concluding Paragraph for Software to Support Assessment
It is essential that teachers, at some point, introduce technology to assess their students
for different content areas. Students must stay up to speed with the use of technology and
teachers must make sure that technology is properly being implemented. There are multiple
software tools available today where teachers can use formative and summative assessments with
the use of technology to do so to measure their students skills. It is necessary to target areas that
show concern so that students can get the best learning tools to move forward. Mathematics,
reading and language arts are some of the basics lessons where students must start at a basic
level to move forward, so it is necessary to use multiple software tools to continue measuring
these areas. If students lack in these major areas, they can be in danger of falling behind the rest
of the students in their grade levels. These programs will make sure that teachers catch when a
student need serious help.
