Billsofmaterialareusedfordifferentpurposes.Theusagedependsontheenterprisearea,for
example:
Theengineering/designbillofmaterialincludesalltheelementsoftheproduct(fromanengineering
viewpoint)andcontainsthetechnicaldata.Itisusuallynotdependentontheorder.
Theproductionbillofmaterialincludestheitems(fromaproductionviewpoint)andassembly
conditions.Fortheassembly,forexample,onlyitemsrelevanttoproductionwithprocessoriented
dataarerequired.

Thecostingbillofmaterialreproducestheproductstructureandformsthebasisforautomatic
determinationofthematerialusagecostsforaproduct.Itemsthatarenotrelevantforcostingarenot

Insteadofauniformbillofmaterial,theseareasuse"theirown"billofmaterialwithareaspecificdata

Theeditmaskisusedtocontrolwhichcharactersmaybeusedforidentification(letters,numbers,or
both)andhowthesecharactersaregroupedtogetherorsplit.Thehierarchylevelsareusedtodefine
whichlevelendsatwhichcharacterandhowmanyhierarchylevelsthestructuremaycontain.
Afunctionallocationcanbeidentifiedusingamaximumof40characters(=maximumlengthoftheedit
