KEY
QUESTIONS

RESOURCES

- Students will
demonstrate I high
level of understanding
of the names and
functions of plant and
animal cells.

Students will take a prior

knowledge ProProfs quiz,
then the same quiz to
see what has been
learnt.

Introduction/motivation: - Students are welcomed and are introduced to the

lesson objectives while they log on to their computers and access the weebly
page (sciencendu.weebly.com). They will then take a prior knowledge quiz
before going on to the content.
Lesson: - Students access the cell investigation tab and read through the cell
organelles linked in the button called step one: cells alive interactive
model. Students are to familiarise themselves with the content. They will
then follow on to step 2 and report their findings on the Blogspot page on the
organelle they have been assigned.
- Students are to access the similarities and differences tab, they will
download the file in step one and access the ven-diagram site in step two.
This is where they drag each organelle in to its correct region of the vendiagram and complete any tab that has not been completely filled out.
Blogspot will help with this when necessary. Once complete they will take a
screenshot of the ven-diagram and upload it on to Kidblog (step 3).
Conclusion: - To close the lesson, students are asked to take the same
ProProfs quiz again on the conclusion tab. Once complete they are informed
about what they will be learning in the following lesson and allowed to leave.

- What is the
difference between a
plant and animal cell?

- What are the names

and functions of each
organelle in plant and
animal cells?

Pre class: - Make sure the online microscope works on the projector screen.
Introduction/motivation: - Follow on work from cells and microscopes;
students are to work in pairs for majority of class time.
Lesson: - Students will apply prior knowledge to the online microscope and
the teacher will run through a tutorial on the projector/smart board. Groups
will be assigned randomly with the use of random.org/list/ (done on
projector screen so all students can see how groups are determined).
- Each group of (2) students are to make their own google document and
must ensure by the end of the class that the teacher is sent a link. Questions
that the students will need to complete during the investigation will be
provided on the weebly page and students will be required to cut and paste
these into their google document.
Conclusion: - At the conclusion of the lesson, students will be instructed to
make sure they have linked the teacher to their google document and will
only be able to leave the classroom when the teacher has confirmed that it
has been received.

- How many cells can

you see under the
microscope in each
magnification?

Science
Inquiry Skills

- Students are able to

distinguish the
differences and
similarities of plant and
animal cells.

Students are to produce

their own ven-diagrams
to illustrate the
comparison of plant and
animal cell organelles.
Students are to use the
Blogspot link to present
to the class with their
knowledge of an
organelle.

Collaborativ
ely and
individually
plan and
conduct
experiment
s, ensuring
safety and
ethical
guidelines
are
followed.
(ACSIS140)

- Students will be able

to list the organelles of
cells and their
functions.
- Students will
investigate the
abundance of certain
organelles within
certain cells, they will
then need to identify
which cell they are
looking at.
- Students will be able
to correlate organelles
of a cell with cellular
function.

A Google document will

be used to gather
students work, the
teacher is to mark the
work and provide
feedback on the same
document.
