BACK 2 SOCIETY SAMPLE OF SCRIPT

EXT. PRISON ENTRANCE DAY
JESSE MORENO, 29 years old, bald, tattoos peeking out from his simple white T-shirt, is being
escorted to the front gates by two armed corrections officers, both carrying rifles. JESSE just
looks straight ahead, his face showing absolutely no emotions. It is impossible to tell he is
leaving prison for the first time in 3 years.
CORRECTIONS OFFICER
So how does it feel to be getting back to the world?
JESSE doesnt answer him and just keeps walking.
SECOND CORRECTIONS OFFICER
Hey Man. Hes talking to you.
Still no response, just the same emotionless stare straight ahead.
CORRECTIONS OFFICER
Dont wanna talk huh? Thats cool. Your ass will be right back up in here in no time. This is all
you know.
SECOND CORRECTIONS OFFICER
Yep. Well be seeing your ass real soon.
They reach the front gate and stand for a minute. JESSE just stares between the bars waiting for
the gate to open. Finally the gate begins to squeal as it slowly slides open. JESSE just stands
motionless until the gate is completely open. When it comes to a stop, he walks forward without
a glance back.
CORRECTIONS OFFICER
Well hold your bed for you.
They laugh through the closing gates as they watch him walk to the bus that will carry him back
to the city.
CUT TO:
INT. NEIGHBORHOOD BAR NIGHT

The bar is crowded. Latin music blasting from the cheap speakers. It is somewhat of a dive filled
with a mixture of working girls, gangbanger types and neighborhood regulars just looking to
pass the time. JESSE sits at the bar by himself drinking a beer paying attention to no one in
particular, in fact almost oblivious to the fact that the place has other people at all.
GINA HERNANDEZ, pretty, 25 years old, and a friend of hers, make their way to the bar
finding an opening next to JESSE. They signal the bartender.
GINA
Hey. Can we get two cuba libras over here? With a twist of lime on one?
The bartender comes over and begins to make their drinks. The women pay no attention to
JESSE nor does he look at them.
DIANNA
Hey Girl, how late can you stay out tonight?
GINA
Not much longer. I gotta go to work in the morning.
DIANNA
Aw thats too bad. A couple more dances with those cute guys and
I think the night would have gotten real interesting.
GINA
Hey you can have em. Im not looking for that tonight.
The bartender has finished their drinks and plops them down on the bar.
BARTENDER
Here you go ladies. Thatll be $8.
GINA
Thanks.
She reaches for her purse and begins to fumble around inside.
GINA (CONTD)
I guess this ones on me.
She pulls out her wallet and sees that she doesnt have that much left.
GINA (CONTD)
Oh, oh, looks like I miscalculated. I dont have that much.

DIANNA
Ah shit. That ole trick. Alright, I got it.
DIANNA begins to open up her purse.
JESSE
Ill take care of it.
He puts $10 on the bar.
BARTENDER
(taking the money)
Thanks.
JESSE doesnt even look at the ladies, just takes another drink from his beer. The ladies notice
him for the first time.
GINA
Thank you.
DIANNA looks at him with a bit of disdain, not liking that gangbanger look.
DIANNA
Yeah. Thanks.
JESSE
No problem.
The ladies look at each other. DIANNA gives GINA a look that says lets get away from here.
GINA
Why dont you go get that next dance with your new love interest.
Ill wait right here. Im tired.
DIANNA makes eyes at her, imploring her to come with her. GINA gives her a look back that
says shell be fine. DIANNA gives up.
DIANNA
Alright. Ill be back in a a few minutes and we can get out of here.
Unless I get lucky.
DIANNA takes her drink and goes back to the dance floor.
JESSE

(still in another world)

GINA
No. She just...shes just...
JESSE
Thats alright. No need to explain.
They both take drinks and sit silently for a minute, GINA clearly interested in talking more,
JESSE is not.
GINA
So...I havent seen you in here. First time here?
JESSE
No. But been awhile.
GINA
Oh.
She waits for him to say more but he doesnt.
GINA (CONTD)
I come bout once or twice a month with my girlfriend.
Otherwise I pretty much stay home.
JESSE
Whats the deal, your husband or boyfriend dont like to go out?
GINA
Well that was a slick way to ask if Im single.
JESSE
Hey to be honest I dont care if you did. I figure if youre out
without em, even if you have one, it must mean youre
open to something else.
