4.NBT.2 Place Value: I can read numbers to 1,000,000. I can write numbers to
1,000,000 in standard form, word form, and expanded form. I can compare
numbers to 1,000,000 using <,>, or =.
Example Problems:
Write 5,489 in word form.
(Answer: five thousand, four hundred eighty-nine)
Write 29,687 in expanded form.
(Answer: 20,000 + 9,000 + 600 + 80 + 7)
Compare 8,765___7,438 using <,>, and =.
(Answer 8,765 > 7,438)
Write thirty-six thousand, four hundred ninety-two in standard form.

4.NBT.5 Multiplication: I can multiply a one-digit whole number by a four-digit
whole number. I can multiply a two-digit number by a two-digit number. I can
show my work and explain my thinking using equations, arrays, and area models.

Cindy studied for an exam at a coffee shop. She bought a muffin for $4, a
coffee for $3, and a sandwich for $8. If she came into the coffee shop with
$15, how much did she have when she left?
Maria stopped at Littletown market to buy 35 cookies for her book club.
Littletown Market sells 7 cookies for $5. On her way home, Maria passed by
another store, Collegetown Bakery. Collegetown Bakery sells 5 cookies for
$4. Maria figured out she got the better deal. How much did she save by
buying her cookies at Littletown Market?

4.NF.2 Fractions: I can compare fractions with like denominators. I can compare
fractions with unlike denominators. I can compare fractions using the same whole.
I can use pictures/fraction models to compare fractions.
Example Problems:

4.NF.3 Fractions: I can add mixed numbers with like denominators to solve word
problems. I can subtract mixed numbers with like denominators to solve word
problems.

4.NF.4 Fractions: I can multiply fractions by a whole number to solve word


problems by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem.
Example Problem:
Sare has a recipe that calls for 2/3 of a cup of flour. She needs to make 4 times
the recipe for a bake sale. How much flour does she need? Solve the problem
using a fraction model and equations to represent the problem.
(Answer: The answer does not need to be in simplest terms. However, the answer
cannot be in a combination of mixed and improper fractions, such as 5 4/4 or 8
4/3.)
4.NF.7 Fractions: I can compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about
their size. I can justify my reasoning using a visual model or explanation.
