1. TurnofftheGlobalColorMapunderEditObject,Appearance,anduncheck
GlobalColorMap.Selectthepointcloud.GotoView,SetObjectVisibility.
SelectPointCloudandclickSelect.
2. Tocolorizethecloud,gotoEditObject,Appearance,EditColorMap.Inthe
ColorMapParametersdialoguebox,changeModetoElevationMap,and
chooseacolorschemefromdropdownmenu.
3. Adjustthestartingelevation.Pickapointonthecloudtodeterminean
appropriateelevationrange.EnteraStartvaluewhichisathelowendof

Thecolorofthepointcloudmaybelightenedordarkenedforbetter
displayandTruViewpublication.Thisalsoappliestograyscale.Thissetting
isadjustedthroughtheGammaCorrectionintheEditGlobalColorMap.
1. ChecktoseeiftheGlobalColorMapisonunderEditObject,
Appearance,GlobalColorMap.Acheckbesidethecommandindicates
thecommandison.Ifoffselectittoturnon.
2. GotoEditObject,Appearance,EditGlobalColorMapPlaceacheck
besideGammaCorrection.Therangeisbetween01.Avalueof1

Adjusting the

TheabilitytoimportdifferentscannerdatatypessuchasRiegl,Faro,and
Opteccanleadtoscandatawithwashedoutintensities.Thecontrast
betweentheintensitiescanbeadjustedtohelpimprovethedisplayofthe
rawscandata.
1. GotoEditObject,Appearance,anduncheckGlobalColorMap.Goto
EditObject,Appearance,EditColorMap.Checktoseeiffieldsonright
havedifferentvaluesonleftbesideMinimumandMaximum.Ifsoclick
doublearrowtobringvaluesoverandclickApplytoseedifferencein
thepointcloud.
2. Ifabovesteps,donotenhancethecloudorvaluesmatch,thenchange
valuebesideMaximumtoalowernumber.Forinstance,ifthevalueis

Centric Viewing

Seek

LocalSeekModelimitsthenumberofScanworldsuserscanviewbyusinga
toolsimilartoseek.Byclickingonthepointcloudoranobject,Scanworlds
withinacertainradiusareviewed.
1. FromtheModestoolbar,selectShowLocalMode.ThenselectLocalSeek.
Clickonpointcloudorobject.Scanworldswithina10mdefaultradiuswill
bedisplayed.Usetheregularseekkeytoclickonvisiblecloudstore
centeryourview.Lockbubbleviewwithpanoramicmode.
2. HoldingdowntheCTRLkeywhilepickingkeepsthelocalmodeactivefor
thenextpick.Toshowentirepointcloud,exitLocalModebyclickingon
ShowLocalMode.

Set ScanWorld
Default Clouds

UsingSetScanworldDefaultCloudsgivesuserstheopportunitytoclean,
clip,andsegmentindividualstationinformationanddesignatethecleaned
pointcloudasthedefaultcloud.Thecleanedpointcloudwillbeloaded
wheneveranewModelspaceiscreatedfromaparentScanworldorinany
newregistrations.
1. OpentheModelspaceView.Clean,clipandsegmentthecloudas
necessary.GotoTools,Scanner,SetScanworldDefaultClouds.Thissets
thecleanedpointcloudasthedefaultfornewModelspacesand
Registrations.Userscanunifycloudtoensurecleanedpointsdont
appearinModelspaceagain.

Cut By SubSelection

Pointcloudscanbecutbysubselection.Thisisaneffectivewaytosegment
andisolateaspecificareaofthepointcloudtoputonitsownlayerorerase.
1. ToSegmentScansbySubSelection,selectoneofthefencetoolsanddraw
afencearoundaspecificobject.GotoSelection/PointCloudSub

commands).Thishighlightspointsinsideoroutsidethefence.

Therearemanywaystohidespecificareasofthepointcloud.Oneeasy
wayistousetheHideSelectedClouds.Usingthiscommandsegmentsthe
selectedareafromtheoverallscan.
1. Makeafencearoundtheareayouwanttohide.Rightclickandselect
PointCloudSubSelection,AddInsideFence.Thisselectsonlythepoints
insidethefence.
2. Rightclickandselecthideselectedclouds.Thiswillhidetheselected
cloud.Tobringitbackrightclickandselectshowhiddenclouds.The
turnedoffcloudmayalsobeturnedoninScanworldExplorer.Users
mayalsochoicetoHideUnselectedClouds.Usethiscommandseveral
timestoisolatespecificobjectstoputonlayersordelete.

Copy Launch

ModelSpace

Anotherwaytoisolateaportionofthepointcloudistocopylaunchittoa
NewModelspace.ThisworkflowcreatesaNewModelspacewiththe
copiedpointcloud.Itisagreatwaytoisolatepointclouddatatomodel
objects.
1. Makeafencearoundthespecificareayouwanttoworkwith.Fromthe
dropdownmenuselectFile,Launch,CopyFencetoNewModelspace.
CyclonewilllaunchaNewModelspaceanddisplaythecontentsofthe
fence.
2. WhenyouclosetheModelspace,youcanmergeintooriginal
Modelspace,RemovelinkfromoriginalModelspacewhichcreatesa
newModelspaceviewand/ordeleteafterclose.

Merging Scan
Data between
ScanWorlds

Datafromdifferentmodelspacesmaybemergedtogetherincyclone.For
example,ifdatacapturedinthefieldgetsseparatedintodifferent
ScanWorlds,itcanbeeasilymergedbacktogether.Rememberthemerged
dataonlyexistsinthecurrentmodelspace.Ifthemergeddataisneededfor
registration,themergedcloudswillhavetobecopiedtothecontrolspace.
Alsothedefaultdatacoordinatesystemsofeachmodelspaceareused.
1. OpentheModelSpaceyouwanttomergethedatainto.SelectFile,
MergefromModelSpace.Fromthedialoguebox,navigatetothe
ModelSpaceyouwanttomergeandselectopen.TheModelSpacesare

UserscanchangetheUCSinCyclonebyplacingtheCoordinateSystemon
anobject.ThiscommandwillorienttheXYplaneofthecoordinatesystem

2. WithPickMode,selectthepatch.

Setting the

Two Axes

UCScanbesetusingalineortwonearperpendicularlines.Settingtwo
axesishelpfulwhenpreparingaPointCloudforCloudWorx.
1. Createalinebetweentwopickpoints.
2. Createasecondlineperpendiculartothefirstline.Forgreaterprecision
onlinecreation,usersmaycreatealinefromtheintersectionoftwo
planes.
3. MultiPickapointneartheendofthelinethatillustratesthedirection
youwantthefirstaxistogo.Thefirstaxiswillbethedirectionthatis
truetotheactualline.
4. MultiPickapointneartheendofthesecondlinethatillustratesthe
directionyouwantthesecondaxistogo.Thesecondaxiswillbe
perpendicularandapproximatetothelineunlessthelinesareexactly
perpendicular.
5. UndertheViewpulldownmenu,selectCoordinateSystem,SetUsing
TwoAxes,XthenY.XthenYiswhatyouwanttousegoinginto
AutoCAD.InAutoCADtheXaxisistotheleft,YaxisisupthepageandZ
pointstowardstheuser.Oncethecommandisexecuted,theviewon
screenmayrotatearound.

Setting the
UCS from
Points

PickpointsmaybeusedtosettheUCS.Withthismethod,youcanassign
newcoordinatevaluestoapickpoint,assignanewazimuthandelevations.
Thismethodworkswellonbuildingfacesandotherverticalplanes.
1. WithMultiPickMode,pickthreepointsonthepointcloud.
2. FromtheViewpulldownmenu,clickCoordinateSystem,Setfrom
Points.Usershavetheoptiontoassignacoordinatevalueforthefirst
pickpoint.
3. SettheAzimuthPoint.AssigntheTopandBottomPoints.ClickOK.This
setstheplanetotheYZAxis.

Moving Point
Cloud Data
using UCS

Pointscanbecutandmovedintoanotherpointcloudveryefficientlyusing
UCS.Thisisagreatapplicationforcomparingexemplarobjectstoexistingor
damagedobjects.
1. Isolatepointclouddataofexemplarobjectandunify.Createareference
lineontheobject.Multipick2pointsandgotoCreateObject/FromPick
Points/LineSegment.
2. Selectlinesegmentonrightside.GotoView/CoordinateSystem/SetUsing
OneAxis/XAxis.Withsinglepickselectorangehandleatstartofline
segment.GotoView/CoordinateSystem/SetOrigin.Verifythereisacheck
markbesideView/CoordinateSystem/ShowCoordinateSystemAxes.
3. Selectpointcloud.GotoFile/Export.Exportpointsoutasatextfilewith
thefollowingparameters,X,Y,Z,Intensity,R,B,G.Checkunitscarefully.
4. Inoverallpointcloudwherepointsarebeinginserted,createaline
segmentatlocationandindirectionyouwanttoplacetheobject.To
createlinesegment,multipicktwopoints.GotoCreateObject/FromPick
Points/LineSegment.Selectlinesegmentatrightsideandgoto
View/CoordinateSystem/SetUsingOneAxis/XAxis.Withsinglepick,
selectorangehandleatstartoflinesegment.GotoView/Coordinate
System/SetOrigin.VerifythereisacheckmarkbesideView/Coordinate

5. GotoFile/Import.Navigatetotextfilecontainingobjectspoints.Set
parameterstoX,Y,Z,Intensity,R,B,G,putacheckbesideAsPointCloud
andchoosecorrectunits.Thisformatcanbesaved.Thepointsofthe
objectwillimportintothenewModelSpaceinthespecifiedlocation.

along an Axis

PointCloudscanbeclippedeasilytheX,YorZaxisinCyclone.Usingthe
SetHalfSpaceatPickcommand,userschoiceapointonthecloudanda
positiveornegativeaxisdirectiontodeterminethelocationofthecut.This
isaquickandidealwaytotakearoofoffabuildingorshowaplanviewor
specificareaofthepointcloud.
1. WithPickMode,selectapointatthelocationyouwanttocutthepoint
cloud.
2. FromtheToolspulldownmenu,selectCutPlane,SetHalfSpaceat
Pick,andpickoneoftheoptions,on+XAxis,on+YAxis,+ZAxis,X
Axis,YAxis,ZAxis.Thepointsinthedirectionyouchosewillbe
turnedoff.TheHalfSpacecommandhidesgeometryaboveorbelowa
currentcutplane.
3. Toshowthepointsagain,gotoTools,CutPlaneanduncheckViewHalf
Space.

Points on a Grid

PointsonaGridisaveryusefultoolforextractinglotsofpointsacrossa
surface.UserscanenteraStartingPointNumberandFeatureCodes.Thegrid
ofpointsareeasilyexportedtoCADtogenerateTINmeshes.
1. Zoomandrotatetoareatoextractdatapoints.GotoTools/Pointsona
Grid.
2. Setthereferenceplaneusingoneortwopicks.Ifusingtwopicks,usethe
multipicktoselecttwopointsandselectSetOrigin+X(Expect2Picks).
Referenceplanewillaligntothetwopicks.Pickpointsagainifnecessary.

designedforuserswhoalreadyknowtheirreferencepoints.
1. Selecttheobjecttomoveandnextsinglepickonthecenterofthe
handleofthereferencepointyouwishtousetomovetheobject.
2. Multipickapointatthetargetlocation.GotoEditObject,QuickMove.
CreatingacustomhotkeyfortheQuickMoveCommandwillmake

MoveByReferenceprovidesaneasywaytomoveobjectsbydisplayingthe
nameandlocationofthepicksonthesourceandtargetlocations.This

1. Multipickoneormoremodeledobjectsyouwanttogrouptogether
andsaveasanassembly.Rememberthelastpointyoupickonthe
objectorassemblyistheinsertionpointforthemodeledobject.
2. GotoTools,ModelLibraryManager,SaveasModel.Typeinanew
Librarynameandclicknew.Thelibrarywillbeaddedtothelist.Then
selectthenewlibrary.Thedefaultlibrariesthatcomepreinstalled

OptimizingandCompactingthedatabasecanhaveapositiveeffectonthe
reducingthesizeofthedatabase.Optimizewillremoveallunusedobjects.
Compactremovesalltheunusedhiddenstructureanditcanreduceyour

1. TouseOptimizeDatabaseOptions,inCycloneNavigator,goto
Configure,Databases,selectDatabaseandselectOptimize.SelectYes
toconfirmyouwanttocontinue.Placeacheckbesideeachbox.Then

2. GotothewirelesssettingsonyourcomputerandclickonthePSeries
ScanStation.Itwillpromptyouforapassword.Thepasswordto
connecttothescannerislistedonthescannerbesidetheWiFiKey.The
defaultpasswordisabcdabcd.Userscanresetthispassword.
3. LaunchthePSeriesSimulatoronthelaptop.ThePtypescannerwillbe
listedintheScanDevicesscreen.Selectitandhitconnectinbottomleft
corner.ThemainPSeriesscreenwillappear.BeginScanproject.
4. Ifusingthesimulatortopracticeandyouneedtochangethescanner
