Song

Song title
Day n Night

Artist
Kid Cudi

Genre
Alternative hip hop

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Some narrative
Interpretative style
Comedy

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)
The style of my music video will be a mixture of both narrative and interpretive, will do this by having a
main narrative to the start and end of my music video, this will be done by having character 1 waking
up to a phone ring, and the end he will wake up to an alarm. The video as a whole will be quite chilled
out and aimed for people to be immersed into the song with both the lyrics and the visuals going on,
on screen.

Costume
Sleeping wear pjs for character one as he is waking up from bed
Other two characters will be in casual gear.

Lighting

Day scenes light

Night scenes Dark
In house some lights turned on to create different effects on characters and different moods
to different scenes.

Locations
In house to record majority of scenes
Fields for night shots

Shot types
Tracking shots in almost 1 shot for character one when he picks up the phone
Pan shots of characters 2 and 3 going crazy
Close ups of characters 1 in bed and walking down stairs.

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?

I have also watched;

Kid Cudi Day n Night

Kanye West American Boy

Watch me whip

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

These videos have all been taken into account and used as inspiration for my music,
video, with aspects such as adding narrative to the video before and after the actual
music starts.
I have watched the original music of Day n Night as well as various other videos in
the same genre. These videos have all been taken into account and used as

inspiration for my music video.

A lot of these video take a comedic stance on their music video, this is often done
through a narrative as well as shots that are out of the ordinary and that change the
normality of what to expect in a music video.

Lyrics
Insert the song lyrics below
[Kid Cudi:]
Day and night (what, what)
I toss and turn, I keep stressing my mind, mind (what, what)
I look for peace but see I don't attain (what, what)
What I need for keeps this silly game we play, play
Now look at this (what, what)

Madness to magnet keeps attracting me, me (what, what)

I try to run but see I'm not that fast (what, what)
I think I'm first but surely finish last, last
[Chorus:]
cause day and night
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at night
He's all alone through the day and night
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night (at, at, at night)
Day and night
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at night
He's all alone, some things will never change (never change)
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night (at, at, at night)
[Kid Cudi:]
Hold the phone (what, what)
The lonely stoner, Mr. Solo Dolo (what, what)
He's on the move can't seem to shake the shade (what, what)
Within his dreams he sees the life he made, made
The pain is deep (what, what)
A silent sleeper you won't hear a peep, peep (what, what)
The girl he wants don't seem to want him too.
It seems the feelings that she had are through, through
[Chorus]
[Kid Cudi:]
Slow mo (what, what)
When the tempo slows up and creates that new, new (what, what)
He seems alive though he is feeling blue (what, what)
The sun is shining man he's super cool, cool
The lonely nights (what, what)
They fade away he slips into his white Nikes (what, what)
He smokes a clip and then he's on the way (what, what)
To free his mind in search of,
To free his mind in search of,
To free his mind in search of,
[Chorus]
At, at, at night

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The song is about the artist who broke up with his girlfriend, he still has his friends
but no one who understands what he is feeling, making him feel lonely. The music
also shows a happy feel to it which shows that even when in pain you should at least
try to be happy. The song may represent a lot of peoples feeling after a break up
sublimely. It shows the struggle between trying to be happy and what you may be
really feeling.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
They will demonstrate the character in pain, however this correlate to the song in that that
song is upbeat so the character will initially be sad then turn happy. The characters will also
contrast each other with character one miserable and the other two joyful. The song will also
show the music at day and night, in both the lyrics and the video you will see on screen as I
will be shooting at day in the house and night in the field.
