    widenedbygeologyandarchaeologyinthe

    midnineteenthcentury.

    Value:
    Generally,peopleareinterestedintheliving
    presentandnotinthedeadpresent.
    Howeverthisisnotquittenable.Itmaybe
    truetopointoutthatthepresentis
    importantitwouldcertainlybeanillogical

    viewtoholdthatpastisofnosignificance.
    Infact,presentisadividinglinebetween
    pastandfuture.Mostoftheproblemshave
    beenrootedinpast.Wecannotsuggest
    suitablesolutionsfortheseproblemsunless
    weunderstandhowthoseproblems
    originated.
    Therefore,themainaimsorpurposes
    oftheteachingofhistoryaregiven
    below:
    (i)Tocreateinterestforhistoryamongthe
    studentsorlearnersofhistory.
    (ii)Toexplainandunderstandthepresent.
    (iii)Toenlargetheareaofindividual
    experiencebyteachingabouthuman
    behaviour,relationship,interactionof
    circumstancesandconditionsintheireffect
    uponindividualandsocialfortunes.
    (iv)Thestudyofhistoryprovidesthe
    intellectualsatisfaction.
    (v)Thestudyofhistorydevelopedthe
    mentalpowerandmentalhorizonofthe
    individual..Ithelpedinthedevelopmentof
    powerofmemory,imagination,logicand
    decisionamongthelearners.Inotherwords,
    itgivemoreinsightintohumanmindina
    moreagreeableway.

    (vi)Thestudyofhistorydevelopedthe
    scientificoutlook.Itenablesapersonto
    applyandimprovehisreasoningfaculty.
    (vii)Thepurposeofthestudyofhistoryisto
    developthenationalfeelingsandtothe
    internationalunderstandingamongthe
    people.
