Napoleon Bonaparte was born in 1769 on the island of Corsica. He joined the new French government after the revolution and became a hero for stopping royalist rebels in 1795. In 1799, Napoleon seized power in a coup d'état after being urged by supporters to take control. He later established a new constitution through a public vote and set up government-run schools.
