Through constructing a magazine product, the author learned to use new software like InDesign for adding images and text and changing colors. They also had to learn a timeline add-on for PowerPoint to complete a research task. While learning new software took some time and mistakes, the author's existing skills in Photoshop, PowerPoint, Prezi and other programs improved as well through applying them in this project.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?

Through this process I have learnt how to use different pieces of software and
developed my skills on software that I previously knew how to use.
The biggest piece of software that I had to learn to use was InDesign this was the
first time that I have ever used this item of software so I had a lot to learn.
Eventually after a little bit of help I worked out how to add images and text,
changes the colour and move things around. This was vital as we used this to
create the final piece for our magazine. There were several times that I had to
restart the changes being made so that they would work in a different way.
These were things such as placing the background image for my double page
spread and getting the text to work with the colour in the background and the
colour of the text.
Another piece of software was an extra that I downloaded at home to my
computer so that I could complete the research task about the publishing
companies for magazines. This was an add on to PowerPoint so that I could make
a timeline on it which I had to learn how to use myself which took a little bit of
time to figure out but eventually I used it correctly. I chose to use this instead of
online features such as time glider as I tried them and did not like the layout.
My skills on the other items of software that I have used in this process such as
Photoshop and Prezi, that I felt comfortable with before we started from previous
uses have all been further improved so that I know what to do without having to
take too much time to think where and how I will find it or use it.
