11th grade United States History

Learning is not attained by chance, it must be

sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence

This course is a junior year U.S history course and our main focus will
be looking at our countrys history from the beginning of its formation
to modern times. We will investigate the past and the events that have
formed our nation as well as our society and look at the origins of ideas
and cultures. Throughout this course we will look at well-known people
who have made major contributions to the world as well as some not
so well-known people who have made major contributions nonetheless.
We will also examine major themes that have influenced (and still
continue to influence) our world. Each unit will also have one essential
question, which we will continually come back to throughout the unit
and attempt to answer. Some themes and essential questions will be:
Power
Civil Rights
Greed
Is America the land of
opportunity?
Leadership
Was the American War for
Technology
Independence inevitable?
Expansion
Was the Civil War inevitable?
Revolution
Does racial equality depend
Justice and Equality
on government action?
Law
What did western expansion
Nationalism
mean to the American
Democracy
people?

These are just some of the questions and ideas we will be

examining throughout the year and we will continually come
back to these themes throughout our units.

Materials
Binder for assignments and notes
Notebook- to be used exclusively for this class
College ruled loose leaf paper
Pens, pencils and erasers
Additional materials may be requested by teacher throughout
the year

Assignments and Late Work

Assignments and homework will be given throughout the week
and you are expected to come to class with these assignments
completed on the day they are due. No late work will be
accepted! Assignments and homework are due when they
are due. If you do not turn your assignment in when it is due
you will receive a grade of zero. There are rare occasions when I
reserve the right to accept an assignment late but you must take
initiative to communicate with me about the assignment and I
will determine if the circumstances are right for me to accept it
past its original due date. The only exception to turning small
homework assignments in late is if you have an excused
absence. Under this circumstance you must turn in your
homework the day you come back from your absence.

Absences
Excused Absences: If you are absent on the day an assignment is
due you must turn that assignment in the day you get back or
else it will not be accepted and will result in a grade of zero. You
have as many days to make up work as excused days you
missed (so if you miss three days with an excused absence you
have three days to make up the work you missed).

Unexcused Absences: You will receive no credit for work if you

have an unexcused absence (meaning you were not called in).

Grading Scale

A= 90%-100%

B= 80%-89%

C= 70%-79%

D= 60%-69%
F= 59% or below
You will be graded on numerous assignments, homework,
projects, papers discussions, in-class work, participation, quizzes
and tests. Grades can be checked online or with me personally at
school. I will try and grade assignments and have them back
within one week of them being turned in, for papers and major
projects it may take up to two weeks to receive a grade and
feedback.

Class Expectations

and turned in on time
You have all the proper materials needed for class
