SAN DIEGO (February 24, 2016) --- More than $7.6 million in grant funding was approved for
neighborhood projects at todays Infrastructure Committee meeting. The Community
Development Block Grant allocation will provide funding for much needed community
improvements throughout San Diego.
Making infrastructure investments a priority for CDBG funds has had a meaningful impact in
our neighborhoods, said Councilman Mark Kersey, chair of the Infrastructure Committee.
These grants are leveraged with other funding sources to support projects where residents see
direct benefits to their community.
Among the projects set to be funded include:

Park de la Cruz Community Center Improvements - $5M

Neil Good Day Center Improvements - $500,000
Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library Improvements - $500,000
Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center and Pool Improvements $519,160
Mid City and Southeastern Police Divisions Improvements - $676,147
City Heights Recreation Center Improvements - $430,240

Several of the projects include long-needed repairs to critical building systems, energy efficiency
improvements and the addition of City-owned rooftop solar systems, which will provide energy
savings for years to come. (A complete project list is attached.)
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a federal program that provides
communities with resources to address community development needs.
The funding will be made available in FY17 pending final approval of the full City Council.
