Chapin Cheerleading Demerit Contract

2016-2017
Thank you for participating in your schools cheerleading program. We are confident that you will enjoy your
cheerleading experience and will excel as a leader at Chapin High School. Cheer/yell leading is an earned privilege at
Chapin High School and therefore our cheerleaders must always set a good example in our school and community at all
times. Cheerleaders are expected to uphold a leadership position at all times and display a positive attitude and behavior
on and off school grounds. To help our cheerleaders, both male and female, uphold these values they must read,
understand, and sign the Demerit system listed below.
1 demerit will be earned when a cheerleader:
o

fails to carry a positive attitude while at school functions

is seen wearing jewelry at practice or while in uniform

is wearing nail polish while in uniform

is chewing gum during a game or performance

displays un-sportsmanlike conduct

does not comply with cheerleading contract

forgets part of uniform to a function to game or function (i.e. poms, socks, shoes, megaphone etc.)

2 demerits will be earned when a cheerleader:


o

wears the wrong uniform or piece of uniform to a school function

is rude/ disrespectful to a coach, teacher, or captain without reason

is misbehaving or being a disruption in class

does not follow directions while at practice

receives an unexcused tardy/absence to school

is seen kissing on school property or while in school uniform

3 demerits will be earned when a cheerleader:


o

fails to follow school dress code

does not notify coach of absence or tardy to a game or practice (must be excused)

leaves practice or game early without prior coach approval

does not meet mandatory fundraising requirements

4 demerits will be earned when a cheerleader:


o

wears uniform to unapproved event

does not participate in mandatory cheerleading event (unless excused)

violates any social media guidelines (at coaching staffs discretion and proof must be provided)

5 demerits will be earned when a cheerleader:

receives a referral to the office (does not include dress code referral)

Demerits can be removed as well as earned. Our goal is to assure that rules are being followed at all times and that a
positive example is always being displayed. Demerits can be removed one at a time, at the coachs discretion, when
cheerleaders are seen displaying the following:

Cleaning up school grounds

Help set up/pick up before and after practice

Tutor/ help others during class or practice

Motivating others

Spends extra time practicing with freshman or with others having difficulty

Volunteer hours

Donations

Coaches will keep records on all demerits earned and/or removed throughout the school year. Consequences will be
strictly enforced at all times and will be the following:

5-9 demerits: Benched (the amount of time of benching is at the coaching staffs discretion), cannot wear uniform
to school, games, pep rally, etc

10-14 demerits: Letter to parents, sit out a week of practice, benched for two weeks, cannot wear uniform to
school, games, pep rally, etc

15+ demerits: Removed from cheerleading squad

*cheer/yell leader will automatically be removed if placed in an Alternative Placement Program


Demerits WILL NOT be reset once a consequence has been met, cheerleaders must work to remove their demerits.
