Echinoderm Is The Common Name Given To Any Member Of: (Note 1)

The document discusses three major animal phyla: 1) Molluscs, which include 85,000 living species like snails, clams, and octopuses. They are highly diverse in size, structure, behavior and habitat. 2) Echinoderms, which include 7,000 living species like starfish and sea urchins. They are only found in marine environments. 3) Arthropods, which include insects, spiders, and crustaceans. They make up over 80% of described animal species due to their jointed limbs and ability to thrive in different environments.

The molluscs or mollusks[note 1] /mlsks/ compose the large phylum of invertebrate animals known

as the Mollusca. Around 85,000extant species of molluscs are recognized. Molluscs are the
largest marine phylum, comprising about 23% of all the named marineorganisms. Numerous
molluscs also live in freshwater and terrestrial habitats. They are highly diverse, not just in size and
in anatomicalstructure, but also in behaviour and in habitat. The phylum is typically divided into 9 or
10 taxonomic classes, of which two are entirelyextinct. Cephalopod molluscs, such
as squid, cuttlefish and octopus, are among the most neurologically advanced of all invertebrates
and either the giant squid or the colossal squid is the largest known invertebrate species.

Echinoderm is the common name given to any member of

the Phylum Echinodermata (from Ancient Greek, , echinos "hedgehog" and
, derma "skin")[2] of marine animals. The adults are recognizable by their (usually fivepoint) radial symmetry, and include such well-known animals as starfish, sea urchins, sand dollars,
and sea cucumbers, as well as the sea lilies or "stone lilies".[3]Echinoderms are found at every ocean
depth, from the intertidal zone to the abyssal zone. The phylum contains about 7000 livingspecies,
[4]
making it the second-largest grouping of deuterostomes (a superphylum), after
the chordates (which include the vertebrates, such as birds, fishes, mammals, and reptiles).
Echinoderms are also the largest phylum that has no freshwater or terrestrial (land-based)
representatives.

An arthropod (from Greek arthro-, joint + podos, foot) is an invertebrate animal having
an exoskeleton (external skeleton), asegmented body, and jointed appendages. Arthropods form
the phylum Arthropoda, and include the insects, arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans. Arthropods
are characterized by their jointed limbs and cuticle made of chitin, often mineralised with calcium
carbonate. The arthropod body plan consists of segments, each with a pair of appendages. The rigid
cuticle inhibits growth, so arthropods replace it periodically by moulting. Their versatility has enabled
them to become the most species-rich members of all ecological guilds in most environments. They
have over a million described species, making up more than 80% of all described living animal
species, some of which, unlike most animals, are very successful in dry environments
