7 Steps of Hypothesis Testing

Ono Masatoshi teaches Basic Statistics on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. The class covers the 7 steps of hypothesis testing which are: 1) state the null hypothesis, 2) state the alternative hypothesis, 3) set the significance level, 4) collect data, 5) calculate a test statistic, 6) construct acceptance and rejection regions, and 7) draw a conclusion about the null hypothesis based on the test statistic and regions.

Basic Statistic
7 steps of hypothesis testing
Step 1: State the Null Hypothesis.

H0:1=2==k
Step 2: State the Alternative Hypothesis.

HA: treatment level means not all equal

Step 3: Set .

In Reality
Decision

H0 is TRUE

H0 is FALSE

Accept H0

OK

Type II Error
= probability of Type II Error

Reject H0

Type I Error
= probability of Type I Error

OK

Step 4: Collect Data

Step 5: Calculate a test statistic.
Step 6: Construct Acceptance / Rejection regions.

Step 7: Based on steps 5 and

6, draw a conclusion about H0.
