Hitec University Taxila Cantt: Engineering Mechanics (Lab)

This document is a lab report submitted by Ahmed Hassan describing an experiment to calculate centrifugal force by varying mass, radius, and velocity. The objective was to use a centrifugal force apparatus and mathematical equations to measure how centrifugal force changes when each variable is altered individually while holding the other two constant. Tables show the recorded values for force calculated at different velocities, masses, and radii. The conclusion and applications sections are omitted from the summary.

EXPERIMENT # 04

Objective:
Calculating centrifugal force by varying mass, radius and
velocity.

Apparatus:
Centrifugal force apparatus.

Diagram:

Explanation:
The outward force acted on a body during a circular motion is
called centrifugal force.
Mathematically:
m v 2
F=
r

Where m is mass, v is velocity and r is radius.

As we know in circular motion
v =r

So by putting the value of v in the above equation we get

Fc =mr 2

Mass, velocity and radius are all related when you calculate
centrifugal force. In fact, when you know this information, you can
use physical equations to calculate how much force required to
keep an object moving in a circle at the same speed.
