Road of Memories
Narrator: Shaquille, Riguel, Jime and Patrick were friends since highschool. Patrick, the most
hardworking among the four, got his new job as a Financial Adviser in Syria. One Monday
morning while the four were on their way to the airport *horns blowing*
Shaq: What the F! Traffics too heavy today! It seems that we cant be at the airport by 8 am.
You know what Riguel? Everytime you ride with me, theres always heavy traffic! (fallacy of post
hoc)
Riguel: Oh cmon, Shaq. Dont be too superstitious. I dont cause the heavy traffic! Its monday
morning, what do you expect here in Manila?!?! Everybody just hates being stuck on such busy
road especially if youre on a rush. So Im pretty sure everyone hates heavy traffic. (Dicto
Simpliciter)
Jime: Wait Riguel. Can you see that? *candy mani kayo dyan*
Riguel: See what?
Jime: That takatak vendor out there. If youre saying that everybody hates traffic, so you think
that vendor hates it at all? Without the cars congested on the roads, they wont be able to sell
and that would make them unhappy.
Shaq: You two better stop that nonsense conversation! Why dont we just take advantage of this
traffic jam for us to reminisce the past especially now that Patricks gonna leave?
Patrick: Thats a good idea! Can you still remember when the four of us first met and became
friends? If I can remember it correctly, it was on the first week of classes on our first year when
the three of you forgot to do your homework in Music! Well, *clears throat* as a member of the
choir, I had my assignment and all of you asked for my help! If not because of that homework,
the four of us will never be as close as we are today. (Hypothesis Contrary to the Fact)
Riguel: But it may be faulty to base the start of our friendship with that homework! Maybe, just
maybe, we could have known each other at another time and another situation.
Jime: How about when Shaquille had his first heartbreak with uhhm, whats the name of that
girl? uhm Var, uhm, Verm, ah Vernie!! Hahaha. Can you guys remember how long it took him to
finally move on? Can you remember when-*unable to finish, Shaq speaks immediately*
Shaq: Stop it!
Jime: I thought you wanted to reminisce the past and obviously, thats what were doing. Haha.
Shaq: Tssss. But guys, that stupid girl is a liar. She may have the looks but everything that came
from her mouth were lies. You should never listen to whatever shes gonna tell you (Poisoning
the Well)
Jime: But Vernie is irresistibly sexy and oozing with sex appeal. Girls are like Pepsi bottles. The
best ones got curves (False Analogy)
Shaq: But Vernie is not a Pepsi bottle. I cant forget the day when she asked me the most
confusing question one had asked me throughout my life, If an object is all black and all white
at the same time, what color is it? (Contradictory Premises) She said she read it on the internet
which made her so confused. Honestly, I found her so weird that day.
Riguel: I can still recall what happened on the night you broke up with her. She told you that you
should never leave her because once you do, her nights will be full of miseries, she wont eat for
weeks, take a bath, and drink her medicines. (Ad Misericordiam) She was too exaggerated back
then.
Patrick: But the week after their break-up, I saw her at Momos and she asked for few more rice!
She seemed so happy that time! Few weeks later, I learned from a friend of mine that she
started dating someone from their barangay just like our ex-girlfriends Riguel and Jime. Well, all
girls really move on faster than us boys do. (Hasty Generalization)
Shaq: I bet we had a long time talking about our past. Look, were now at NAIA. Time passed by
so quickly that we didnt even notice were already here. Just like all our experiences together,
as if all of those just happened yesterday. These memories never get old.
Jime: I wish next time well be stuck in traffic longer than usual so we have more time to
reminisce the past. Patrick may also wish to be stuck in traffic, but he needs to catch his flight.
Riguel: So I guess its really wrong to say that everybody hates traffic jams because in situations
like this we wish that time could stop so we can enjoy our company for a longer time. See you
soon and have a safe trip, Patrick!
Patrick: Thank you so much! Dont worry, when I come back, well try to catch up everything
weve missed. It may be a goodbye for now, but Ill make sure Ill see you all soon! Bye!
All(Except Patrick): Bye! Have a safe trip!
