Design of Reinforced Concrete Elements

This course introduces students to the design of reinforced concrete elements using the limit state design method. The course objectives are for students to understand reinforced concrete design concepts, appreciate limit state design methods, and learn to design basic structural elements like slabs, beams, columns, foundations, staircases and retaining walls. The course covers reinforced concrete materials, limit state design theory, and the sectional design of elements for bending, shear, torsion and deflection. Students will learn through lectures, tutorials, coursework assignments, and an examination.

Title: Design of Reinforced Concrete Elements

Course Description: The course is to introduce the students to the concept of reinforced
concrete design. It exposes the students to the different design theories used in the design
of reinforced concrete structures, particularly the limit state design theory. The students
are further exposed to the design of basic structural elements using the limit state method
of design.
