Electrical insulators are important components in electric power systems. Porcelain insulators have advantages of low material costs and high mechanical strength, but can be complex in geometry and have high leakage currents. Composite insulators have advantages over ceramic and glass insulators like better performance in contaminated environments, lighter weight, easier handling, being maintenance-free, and lower costs. Numerical methods are applicable even when physical prototypes are unavailable and for complex real-life problems, while experimental methods require a physical prototype but results cannot be fully trusted and require testing multiple prototypes.
