1.3 Music Video Style

As-Live- Stormzy Shut Up
This video is of the artist Stormzy performing his song
in front of a crowd in London. The park setting of this
video as simplistic camera techniques suggests that
this video was restricted on budget. In terms of miseen-scene the video is filmed outside therefore
utilising the natural light it is important to mention
that this song is of a genre of rap called grime, as the
word suggest this sub genre of rap is very edgy as
much as it is creative. With this in mind you must
show attention to the fact that the clothing worn in
this video is what most grime artist wear, consisting
of Tracksuit, hats and small bags.
Homage Wiz Khalifa Ft Charlie Puth See You Again
Due to the fact that the song is created for the movie
blockbuster Fast & Furious 7 it is a homage as well as
synergy. It is homage to the great and late actor Paul
walker who sadly passed during the filming of the
movie. You may ask how they finished the movie
without him. Well they used his previous appearances
and warped his face onto his brother during the final
scenes of the movie. In terms of the music video it
contains scenes from the movie itself as well as
scenes from the music video. The scenes in which Wiz
Khalifa and Charlie Puth are situated are similar if not
the same as the ones in the movie. The video also
contains Cars from the movie making it a true
homage and synergy. Charlie Puth later created a full version of the song
without Wiz Khalifa making the song a ballad instead of a rap.
Narrative Bruno Mars Grenade
This video features the artist Bruno Mars singing his
hit song Grenade, which was released in 2010. The
songs mise-en-scene resembles a film look. This
shows that the song is truly telling story but it is
somewhat unclear because of the lyrics suggesting
the song is about a lady but the video is his based on
his passion for music. So with that in mind I feel like
the music video is showing how his passion and music will come to an end
and throughout his career he might have his ups and downs but in the end
it will be all worth it. But in terms of lyrics I feel like the lyrics is more

suggestive in terms of talking about a lady and how he has struggled just
to get to her and how he will figuratively and theoretically catch a
grenade.
Interpretative Sia Elastic Heart
This video has gone though its ups and downs
throughout its release but it is important to note that
being an interpretive song as well as interpretative
music video it is in the end an amazing and
breathtaking work both from the artist Sia and actors
Shia LaBeouf and Maddie Ziegler. The mise-en-scene
of this video shows two individuals who have meet
for the first time and are trying to figure each other
out whilst being trapped in a cage, again this cage
can mean several things. It can mean that they are
restricted in terms of where they live or restricted in
that they are kept prisoners.
The video itself contains several scenes that show
pure emotion, and to some might seem over
reacting. This is clearly shown by the countless Midshots showing body language and extreme clos-ups
showing emotion through the face and eyes.

Parody Eminem Just Loose It

Throughout his career Eminem has been known to
make fun of various happenings around the world.
But this whole song/music video is dedicated on
imitating movie scenes as well as songs from the
past. For example the first scene is the iconic Billie
Jean scene from Michal Jacksons video. The parody
does not extend just to the video Alright stop but
jammer time is clearly inspired from the original
song Hammer time by MC Hammer. The video also
widens its genre by copying movie scenes; an
example of this is the scene in which the artist is
dressed up as Santa Clause referencing the movie
Bad Santa played by Tony Cox. The mise-en-scene of
this video varies from simple stages to complex scenes identical to the
original movie/music video.

Influence by a commercial Kanye West- Gold Digger
This video is of a typical nature to Hip-Hop. What I
mean by this is that the music video promoted
commercialism and advertises the artist glamourous
lifestyle involving alcohol, money and women. The
video features the main creator Kanye West and
Jamie Foxx (A List Actor). Both of these men are
shown to be wealthy due to the fact that they are
wearing extremely fashionable clothing as well as
expensive pieces, this is the completely opposite to
the women as they are wearing skimpy cheap
clothing which in my opinion degrades womens values as they are as
sexual objects, being a rap video promoting their lavish lifestyle. It is
important to mention that the use of Chroma key has a massive impact on
the music video as a whole due to the fact that for the majority of the time
the background is Red/Pink.

Animation Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.

This music video follows the identity that the band
Gorillaz have built throughout their years of creating
music, what I mean by this is that they have created
music videos in very similar style before but
completely different in the sense of the storyline and
animation. The music video shows us the bands
performing the song in a completely surreal and
stylised world. Being an animation the budget for
the video is reduced but it is still expensive to
produce such a high quality animation. With this in
mind it allows the artists to have more control over
the music video which would not be possible if it was
created using directors etc.
