JOB DESCRIPTION
DIESEL ENGINE TEST
1. Preparation Check
a. Mount the engine and fasten in place.
b. Align the engine with the pump. And disconnect the
coupling/ shaft between the engine and pump.
c. Install the fuel supply and the return lines.
d. Check to see if the fuel tank has been filled.
e. fill engine cooling system with pro- mixture of 50% treated
water and 50% coolant
coolant.
f. Inspect/ or install the air filter. Repair or replace the air
filter if damanged or missing. Do not allow air filter to be
obstructed; poor performance or engine damage may
occur.
g. Install the exhaust system. Do not allow exhaust system
piping to cause any stress on the engine. Do not exceed
backpressure limits.
h. Install wiring between the automatic engine control and
the engine terminal strip.
i. Install batteries and battery cables to the battery main
battery contactors. Batteries should be charged 24 hrs
j. Install the water conduits. Do not allow plumbing to cause
any stress on the heat exchanger or aftercooler.
k. Check for damaged or missing exhaust blankets.
Repair or replace if necessary.
l. Fill the engine with crankcase oil.
m. Connect the jacket water heater to the pump motor AC
outlet. The jacket water heater is thermostatically controlled.
Do not connect the jacket water heater if the engine is not
filled with coolant: this may cause the heating element to
over heat and burn out.
n. To prevent bearing damage during initial start-up,
pre lubricate the engine at low rpm.

JOB DESCRIPTION
ENGINE START
a. Manual start and stop
a) Place the selector switch in " Manual" mode
- Observe the pilot light comes "On".
- Observe the run soleniod engages, and a clicking sound is heard.
b) Lifts and holds manual crank toggle switch.
c) Check the engine starts, and the engine speed is reached the
the factory -set speed without the engine idling and without a
warm up period
period.
d) Release the manual crank toggle switch.
-Observe the pilot light turns " Off" indicating that the alternator
is functioning and the batteries are being charged.
e) During the diesel engine is running. The followings should be
checked.
- Leaks:
Check for leaks. Verify the coolant hose. The fuel supply and
the return lines or any where else around the engine.
- Oil pressure:
Normal reading is between 55 and 88 psi ( 3.75 and 5.4 bar.)
- Jacket water temperature:
The jacket water temperature should normally remain in the
green sector. If the pointer enters the orange sector, the engine
is over heating and engine damage may occur.
- Engine speed:
Normal reading for the tachometer is the factory preset speed.
b. Remote Start and stop
a) Place the selector switch in " Auto " mode.
b) Push the " Remote" push button in central control room.
- Observe the pilot light comes " on "
- Observe the run selenoid engages, and a clicking sound is
heard .
c) Check the engine start cranking automatically.

( driver mounting bolts, flanged coupling bolts, seal housing cover
bolts, seal piping, etc.)
10) On the pumps equipment with packing box, make sure the
glands nuts are only finger tight and do not tighen packing gland
before starting. Check the cooling water inlet and outlet lines.
Connect the coupling /drive shaft bet, the engine and pump.
The system is full of water up to the automatic deluge valve clapper
clapper.
The main gate valves, installed upstream of the automatic deluge
valve ,are open.
Automatic deluge valve unit condition.
1) Deluge valve is closed, full of water in pressure under the clapper.
2) Clapper is blocked in " closed position" by the water pressure
in the control head.
3) The actuator or solenoid valve and the emergency release valve
to be closed.
4) System water pressure to be shown on pressure gage.
5) Alarm valve is closed.
6) Angle discharge valve for drain is closed.
