PROCESS PAPER
Question 1
State Thesis
Why and how you chose your topic?
The thesis is Even though all the Apollo missions
were important, Apollo 11 is the most important space mission
because it was the first manned mission to land on the moon, it
resulted in many photographs and videos of the moon, and the
retrieval of moon rocks. I chose my topic, Space, because it is a
very important subject and it interests me and my group. I chose
this topic by narrowing down the subjects that were of interest to
me and chose the one I knew the least about. My group members
didnt know a lot about it either.
Question 2
How did you research and develop your topic?
We researched this topic by locating and reviewing
a variety of sources found on the Internet, including: nasa.gov,
ABC Clio, and other online databases. From these databases, we
gathered information needed to develop our topic of Apollo 11
and the moon landing. The information we selected portrays a
clear representation of the Apollo 11 mission. The types of
information we found included interviews, essays, commentaries,
and multimedia. From these we felt were the most relevant to our
topic.
Question 3
Why did you choose your specific category, and how did you
create your project?
We chose our topic because we were all interested in the
topic of space. The Apollo moon missions, the first moon landing
specifically, was of particular interest due to its historical nature.
One reason we chose Apollo 11 was because it was, one small
step for man, one giant leap for mankind, as stated by Neil
Armstrong. We created our project by locating primary and
secondary sources through Internet searches and then compiling
the information found onto the website we developed. Pages on
the website will include quotes, photographs, videos and other
multimedia.
Question 4
How does your topic relate to the theme? What is the importance
of your topic today? How has he/she changed history?
The topic Apollo 11 relates to the theme Exploration,
Encounter, and Exchange because Apollo 11 was an exploration
though space to the moon. The crew encountered many great
experiences like recovering moon rocks and testing the moons
gravity. Apollo 11 is still relevant today because it gave Americans
confidence about manned space flights, and lead to Skylab, and
eventually, the International Space Station. Apollo 11 was just the
start of what would become further space exploration. It also
changed history because without the moon landing, we may not
have landed Rovers on Mars, photographs of distant planets, and
the outer reaches of our solar system. Internationally, we would
have fallen behind the Soviet Union in the Space Race. If that
would have happened, the Cold War could possibly have been
won by the U.S.S.R and the world, at least politically, would be
very much different than it is today. The U.S.S.R. may not have
dissolved, and their power may have expanded world-wide.
