ESSENTIAL UNIT 3 (E03)


(Projects in Word Processing)
(JULY 2010)

Unit Statement: In this unit, the student will be exposed to and practice the full
functionality of modern word processing, including the often-overlooked area of
collaboration. The student will move both in and out of traditional packages to explore and
utilize the capabilities of documents for a variety of applications.
Essential Outcomes: (assessed for mastery)
1. The Student Will create a document of one paragraph or more with appropriate
fonts, size, and alignment.
2. TSW analyze the work of another student for font selection and placement.
3. TSW add graphic elements to the document, including pictures, backgrounds,
bullet points of multiple varieties, and bold or italic text
4. TSW add appropriate headers to a document, including student name, date, teacher
name, and page numbers (MLA format is recommended).
5. TSW edit the work of another, finding errors or edits in each others work and
correcting or highlighting them so that they can be easily identified,
discussed, and accepted or rejected by the originator.
6. TSW produce a document of at least one page on both traditional and nontraditional software that includes at least three suggestions made by other
students.
7. TSW export a file to web, print, and e-mail formats.

Assessment Rubric for Technology-11 E03 Word Processing


Students write 2-3 sentences of a story and then pass the story along to be continued by the next
student. This continues through 5-7 rotations. Alternatively, students may write a section of story,
and then choose a different story to write for the other portion. The purpose is to demonstrate the
basic technique of retrieving and modifying a file. Can be accomplished on a file-sharing
application such as google docs or zoho. Can also be accomplished on a network.
